I've played Shaq Fu ffs.

yeah but this is the 'bad games you enjoy' thread. Not the 'bad games that are gooseberry fool and everyone hates thread'.

Anyways. I thought No More Heroes was pretty bad. It was mechanically average, it's style was the only thing that kept it interesting.

So does that count?

I played a load of Simpsons Skateboarding with my brother back in the day. It was a laugh but the game was terrible we just use to sit there taking the piss out of it while we played.

No it doesn't. No More Heroes wasn't rubbish. At all.

I love poor-quality commentary! They certainly got value-for-money out of that sound-bite. I have never played a Virtua Striker game and I wish I had. The graphics look great although I'm not so keen on that camera angle!

You've triggered my memory... Konami's Goal Storm has to be included in this run-down of excellently rubbish games. This precurser to Pro Evolution Soccer was resplendent with 90s polygons (about four per player), massively wide goals, constantly-sprinting players, plain weird sound effects and, best of all, terrifically bad commentary. It's terrible and I love it.

"Good stop, keep-uh!"... "Scorchio!"... "Goal... goal... SUPER-GOAL!"... "It's another goal for (endless wait) GERMANY!" and "It's an early bath for that one!". Good times.

GOTF.

It's one of those so-bad-it's-good games. It's clunky, too brown (dat Unreal engine), and the writing is diabolical ("...I miss my stable of bikes"), but at least they tried something a little different. It's a shame it was so universally panned, because it then ruined Codemasters for making any interesting games. Now it's just generic racing game after generic racing game :dread:

Not one that was strictly considered a bad game I don't think, the general consensus was that Unreal 2 was just very average, but it was one of the best FPS games of the period as far as I'm concerned.

To be fair, it kinda was. If it wasn't for the visuals, the music, the bonkers story, it'd have been a spectacularly average game, at best. The open world is devoid of life, the vehicle handling is crude.

And I LOVED the first No More Heroes. But as a pure game, it's simplistic drivel. Like a crude Unity tech-demo. Everything that makes No More Heroes worth playing has basically nothing to do with the gameplay.

And as much as I like it, I can't deny that calling it a case of sheer style over substance is completely fair.

Haha, that's classic 90s shred right there! That's what Sega's all about! Still evident in Fzero GX. Makes you feel good.

Wasn't this originally a UE mod or something that won a competition to be made into a full game? There was so many UI elements ripped straight from Gears of War

I really enjoyed Unreal II. Sure it was a pretty average shooter but at the time I had a brand new PC which would struggle to run anything these days but back then it was bordering on top of the range so I picked up Unreal II at launch and it looked the tits.

Yeah, if it wasn't for all the really good bits No More Heroes would have been an average game. A statement you could make for just about anything.

Not really.

Take the story, characters, etc out of Resident Evil 4 and you get it's score attack mode. Stripped of everything else, there is still an enjoyable game at the heart of it.

The same cannot be said of No More Heroes.

Maybe, but you'd be lying.

Walk along an largely empty featureless 3d corridor, mash the A button, wave the wiimote in the indicated direction. Rinse and repeat.

That's 99% of your playtime right there, not including the bits where you pick up scorpions.

For me it works as a parody of gameplay, but it's not actually fun to play in and of itself.
