They did. They seemto have woken up to the need to play at pace. Really good stuff. I can see them beating SA and Samoa and the Aussie gamebeing dead close. Their forward pack will be key against Aussie but, as in the summer, they'll need to continue to play fast counter attack ball. Aussie will sore, you just have to score more.

Progress from England today, didn't start well but got better and ran them close.

Bodes well for the World Cup.

Happy with the England performance...a bit more discipline and composure and it would have been a win. Gutted to see the line out not perform as well as expected but as per usual the scrum delivered plenty of ball. Youngs is a godsend for us as he deliver quick ball and puts a bit more dynamism in the play.

OK, I was wrong about us getting the win but I knew this England side would not ship 20. I also know that come RWC 2011 England will out perform NZ true to form.

I fancy our chances against Australia next week...getting a decent 80 is the key and something England have struggled with for years. Seriously, once this side click they are going to be world beaters!!

Youngs is indeed, as is Foden.

A lot of the young guns are really coming good for England.

I had a feeling Ireland were getting past their best.

They aren't looking great at all.

Take out the pensioners who came on and the yellow card and it's going down hill.

Still a good side and strong in the 6N but I think the glory days have gone for now. These things always go in cycles.

England did themselves proud. I'm not certain New Zealand got far out of first gear and I'm fearing they'll crush Scotland when they do. :x

Indeed, was much improved in regards to the points I mentioned above. Still a long way to go, but there are some good signs there. Wish they stagger the games though, as I wouldn't have minded seeing Australia-Wales.

It's on iPlayer now.

Some damn fine games today, shame it's a Southern Hemisphere whitewash, but they are at the end of their international season unlike our lot.

The new law emphasises seem to benefiting the game... turnovers either happen quickly or not at all and the scrums are punished well. Credit to Romain Poite (England vs NZ) for the not straight in the scrum! and Barnes (Wales vs Australia) I reckon now is the best international referee... Nigel Owens was a bit all over the place today, although that only knocks him to second best.

105 years we've been waiting to beat New Zealand.

I think we'll be waiting for another 105 as well.

Wales started very well.

Well done George North, try on his debut! Pretty blatant crossing though, not sure how Brian Moore figured otherwise...

Fantastic match.

End to end stuff.

Aussie are so dangerous and the best backline in the world at the mo. Worked to their advantage to have an SH ref who will not allow a contest at the scrum though. Thank God MJ now has them playing real rugby and not relying on it.

Youngs was man of the match until getting injured - he was towering over the rest of both teams. It slowed down as soon as Care was on.. that bloody side step every single time.

Fantastic win in the end and a sign that Engand are going the right way with a talented young side. I think they're going the right way for sure. 6N should be interesting.

Scotland have takena right pasting here.

Makes me realise that, after an equally poor start, England showed real promise to fight back into the game and give NZ a real test.

Both teams were clearly rusty in their first match but Scotland have never looked like being able to compete here.

England finally have a team that Johnson should stick with. I don't even mind seeing Hartley in the starting line up - well at least in comparison to Thompson !!. And Tindall may only have one more world cup left in him but he does bring a certain aggressive 'experience'. And I'm even quite liking mad dog Moody as captain !!

Youngs was truly magnificent today - lets hope his injury is only slight. But players like Ashton and Lawes are also starting to play to their true ability as we all knew they could.

It all looks quite promising. Lets just hope they haven't left it a little bit too late for next summer. They just need more settled games now for the 'self belief' to kick in and they could be a really excellent side.

Poor old Scotland - and that's never a good way to end a match.

The England game was cracking, best stuff from them in literally years... and a good week for the Northern Hemisphere is seems. Just waiting for the Wales match to come up on iPlayer.

Just watched the highlights again - you have to say Ashton's end to end try was truly magnificent.

Thought Foden was a bit quiet today but he'll have better games I'm sure.

Agreed the whole move was fantastic. Good to see such invention from an Eng backline (and a second row).
