This game is genuinely perfect. So much to explore I'm about 50% through the main game and just can't get enough of it.

So well made and presence each enemy has is so well done. On new game plus I might go full pyromancer.

Wish my image sig would work

I've been replaying this after the Remaster, and while I enjoy it. I dislike the fact it's largely one linear journey (sometimes with side branches)

The interconnected world of DS1 (at least the first half) was much stronger.

Completed the remaster and have sunk in 35 hours into Dark Souls 2 SOTFS on the PS4 Pro. I must say that I love the more responsive, faster controls on the sequel. I completed it a few years back on the PS3 and was quite critical of it, however appreciate it a lot more now and feel that it has a lot more depth than the original even though some of the bosses are a bit boring/ repetitive.

I bought DS3 digitally as £11.99 is a steal and will replay that one day soon after God of War and Yakuza 6.

I do think that we need a break from the franchise for a few years and perhaps a new twist such as a different setting, however I would absolutely love a Demon's Souls remake on the PS4 Pro and hear Bluepoint are hard at work on it. This also reminds me that I have the Shadow of the Colossus remake still shrinkwrapped and ready to play! The PS4 really has all the games.

I'll be absolutely shocked if a Demon's Souls remake isn't announced and released by the end of next year. I think it's basically the last big Sony game from that era that hasn't been remastered.

Finished my re-run of this after DS1 Remastered.

Still very conflicted about it. The mechanics are great, but the mostly linear setting is terrible and the lore isn't as good. (Each area in it's own is pretty good, but the world is a corridor).

The DLC though (first time) god what a chore. Bosses have insane amounts of health - even fully geared/leveled up. Everything just takes so long.

I'd probably rate it higher than the first game tbh. Thought the lore was great and the increased linearity didn't really bother me since each particular area still had little shortcuts and stuff.

The lore was interesting no doubt - far more so than 2 - but DS1 is special :)

The world in one is so interlinked - you can "sequence break" a lot of later play throughs. Don't get the same from DS3 - pretty much always one route forward and cut off.

I agree with DS3> DS1. It's a better game overall.

Bought this in the latest PSN sale last night on a whim even though I know DS games are rock hard and I've never got to the first boss in Bloodborne.

I'm going to struggle with this aren't I?

Well you'll at least get to the first boss in this one, it's pretty early in the game. Not too bad either, and will make you feel like a champion when you beat him.

To be honest I'd probably say DS3 is the best one for a beginner, certainly the difficulty curve is fairer.

Currently at the boss at Farron Keep in this and I'm really enjoying it. Never finished the original DS (mainly due to a save error and getting a PS4 shortly after), I enjoyed it but for some reason I much prefer the 'hub-world' games as the only ones I've completed are Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, and DS3 now I think is the best Dark Souls game. Not as good as Bloodborne, but of course nothing is.

I normally go Dexterity but decided I wanted a go at the hefty weapons this time, currently a Great Machete and working my way up to Vordt's Greathammer.

Can I have some tips for a Souls newbie please?

E.g character type, weapons. I’m not a fan of stealth types generally although in Skyrim I love my bow & arrow character.

I will be playing on the easiest setting too

This isn't a thing I'm afraid.

I'd always recommend picking a warrior type and specialising in Strength. It's the easiest way to play and the least you have to remember. Use the heaviest armour you can wear without losing speed, big sword and shield. Block attacks, counter.

Someone will be along in a minute to say armour is for wimps.

And this is as far as I've got! I can't beat him. He's nailing me every time. The fact I have to go back to the bonfire just 2 mins before each time is putting me off already.

I'm not going to last long on this before deleting it I feel

Yeah, this is the point where you either give up, or you get the Dark Souls feeling of besting a boss. If you get that feeling, you won't stop. It's like a drug, overcoming the challenges of the hardest bosses is one of the best feelings in videogames. I would really implore you to stick it out.

Have you got close to beating him? You will know if you've hit the second phase.

I haven't played DS3 yet, but the first boss in these games are a learning process.

Where are you going wrong? Pushing your stamina bar too hard? Ease off on the attacks and don't get greedy. If you're getting hit while attacking, don't go for an extra attack and back off.

Use your stamina for dodging instead. You're invulnerable if you time it right.

Dying too easily? Raise your health a little through some little grinding. You'll get better at the combat as you do this.

There are no attack cancelling animations, so learn your weapon and what you can get away with before having to back off.

Take a few attempts just to focus on dodging the enemies attacks. Don't attack it yourself, but practise where and when to dodge.
