I'm still amazed they managed to keep all that Lovecraft stuff quiet until launch.

Brerlappin wrote:I was the exact opposite. I loved the Fantasy setting of DS, i was always hardcore about Knights and Dragons and gooseberry fool as a kid so the second i heard about Demons Souls and how people described it on here made it sound like a live action version of the old Fighting Fantasy novels, i had to play it. I was disappointed Bloodborne went with a more gothic victorian look, but once i got into it and it turned out to be the secret best Lovecraft game ever, i was 100% sold on it.

Think it was because Id tried DS1 and 2 early in the xbox one & PS4 generation and the graphics put me off, wrong of me i know, but after coming from bloodborne it was a huge step down, luckily I tried DS3, and i literally havent looked back

Is that the one where you get summoned and find yourself up against two others? I changed to a different group. strawberry float that deal.

Not always two others, its summon to go help another. I just don't seem to get any help, and I'm at the pontiff bonfire. strawberry float that place.

There are 3 covenants in the game that play off each other. The Way of Blue is basically "I'm being invaded, come help me." and the Blue Sentinels are the guys who come to help them. The Darkmoons are literally just the Sentinels with a different name, it's very dumb.

If you're invaded while in the way of blue, you get help, ideally. If you get invaded in any other covenant you're on your own unless you find a sign.

Also, have the finally fixed the Sentinel/Darkmoon summoning? Back when I played and tried to get max rank on it I was sat for literal hours in the invasion heavy areas hoping to get summoned. Ended up just giving up and farming the covenant drop like everyone else.

Yeah makes sense, I've joined the way of the blue for now, i keep getting invaded by 2/3 players. Had two idiots yesterday that basically followed me around for about 15 minutes, i decided to just go for a boss and then homeward bone out of there, instead they waited for me to get lose to the fog wall and battered the gooseberry fool out of me, strawberry floating dickheads.

...and done. Started journey 2 and got back to the shrine but can't see the point in playing again. Just seems slightly harder but offset by the fact my character is much better than first time around.

Yeah if I want to play again I just usually start a new character with a different build since the NG+ doesn't add anything new unlike in DS2.

I started again the second time, I've never actually finished the game :fp: as my first character was skewed all the wrong way, i wanted to go for a quicker, less armoured build with a hint of magic, I've just ended up with a brilliant archer again   :x

My whole game was based around killing as many of the strawberry floaters as possible with the bow and crossbow, and a lot of running away. All of my flasks were health and the only magic I used was health.

You can re-spec your character in the Rosaria's Fingers covenant but doing so messes up some side quests.

Think I'm way past most side quests now anyway, Im about to fight Aldrich, finished anor Londo, beat Yhorm. Off to wherever it is next, Ive put a lot of points in dexterity and luck this time, a bit in magic. I still struggle with the parry mechanic but I don't think my shield can do it tbh.

Made some good progress on this last night, ended up playing until about 2am without realising it - so I'm paying for that today!

I killed the Old Demon in the Smouldering Lake, first few goes I tried to take him out too quickly and he had a few really annoying attacks which floored me if I was up close. In the end I went for a mix of cautious sword attacks followed by a retreat and some ranged attacks from my trusty longbow. He didn't stand a chance :datass:

Following that I did some more exploring of the Catacombs, found a bunch of pickups and enemies but can't see anything else I'm supposed to do here other than the boss that you fight when touch the goblet? He spanked me pretty hard a couple of times, so I decided to head back to some previous areas as I've had the feeling that I've been following a single "thread" through some spaces which might have more to offer to me... turns out I was right!

So having headed back to the road of sacrifices I found a boss that I completely missed the first time around, Crystal Sage, who proved to be a walk in the park to anything else I'd encountered (presumably as I'm possibly now somewhat overpowered for this area?) and this then lead to a whole new Cathedral area. I spent a very merry time here working my way through hordes of zombies and other creatures, before finishing up by taking out some giant in a big central chamber. It was a this point that I realised it had ceased to be Sunday night and was now Monday morning, so I thought I would call it quits there!

Not sure how effectively I've been levelling my character - I'm putting quite a lot of points into Dexterity more than anything as it seems to up my attacks. Either way he's served me well thus far.
