Ah gooseberry fool, that's the mission I'm near the end of now and I haven't done TFW yet as I planned on doing that after the story.

I wouldn't worry too much, you might get additional dialogue in TFW after completing it for all I know.

I have an idea about the end(ish) game story stuff. Big spoilers, please don't read unless you've finished the game (or are at least at the last mission).

The Odyssey was equipped with an unrestrained version of Apollo, an early A.I. version if I recall, not connected to the Earth networks or GAIA.

Now, the ship itself was lost, and Apollo on Earth was killed by Faro, but there's no word on the Odyssey's version. What if it's still up there, or survived the fall to Earth, and it was the "thunderbolt from the blue sky," so to speak, which freed GAIA's subordinate functions and allowed them to become true A.I. in their own right?

Probably not the best I’ve already 100% the game, flying through frozen wilds. How long is it?

It's not long, in terms of main story missions, but if you're like me and you like to soak up the world and avoid fast travel, you will be there for a while.

Think I got about 15 hours out of it, but I did all the side missions and took my time.

Alvin Flummux wrote:Finished this the other week, the last few main missions were phenomenal, and the story was superb. For anyone looking into the Frozen Wilds, you'd be best to take that on right before the "Deep Secrets of the Earth" mission, as IIRC they added some dialogue there which references TFW.

I'm going through it on NG+ on Ultra Hard now and it's pretty good. I'll do a from scratch run on Ultra Hard afterwards I think, get really beat up.

Tempted to get the Frozen Wilds just for the graphics...

It's quite stunning, a real technical achievement.

I think that that footage might be running on a top spec PC, because I don't recall it looking quite that pretty in person, but pretty well all of the effects you see there are present in the game. The snow trampling effect is lovely, but clearly a little limited based on current tech. I expect that it'll be much lovelier in Horizon 2.

This game has been such a disappointment. Been looking forward to playing it since it came out, and now about 10 hours in I think I'm done. You can feel the AAA, big seller expectations weighing down the actual fun parts of the game. There's such an exciting core that's been watered down by either a totally unfocused design and/or the requirement to add in loads of random shite for mass appeal. Out of the 4 or 5 main parts of the game, one of them is amazing (that being the monster killing) and the rest just so bog standard and unimaginative it hurts. The story, the open world, the fighting with humans and the side quests are just.. bleh. When I was asked to collect 3 pieces of boar meat I almost force closed the game there and then.

I have no idea why they made the game open world. Apart from looking pretty it adds nothing. The quests don't use it, the monsters don't stray much outside their patrol areas, there's nothing to be gained from exploring, and exploring itself is horrible. Apart from riding mounts that are no faster than your sprint speed (but get stuck on corners like there's no tomorrow) you have no other options for traversal. Coming to a cliff is a horrible inconvenience going up or down. There's no reason not to fast travel to the next objective, so why is it open world? Maybe you get to ride the flying monsters later in the game? That would be awesome.

It looks amazing, and I can't stress how fun fighting the big monsters is, but apart from that I just struggle to keep playing.

The story definitely picks up later in the game when you start finding out things about project Zero Dawn, I was put off for a good couple of months feeling the same. Beautiful game but story being a bit meh but when I went back and got further it was excellent.

High points for me were graphics, beasties and the story. Though the story can be experienced via YouTube, etc, I found the reveals of the project to be genuinely edge of the seat stuff.
