PostEpic Mickey 2: The Power of Two - E3 Gameplay p2
by tomvek » Fri Dec 30, 2011 3:21 am

Confirmation of a multi-console sequel to Epic Mickey popped up seemingly by accident in a Disney newsletter.

All of this information comes form an article on StitchKingdom.com, and though they offer links to the newsletter in question, the information about Epic Mickey 2 no longer seems to be present. It may be an issue of information being accidentally placed in the newsletter, and then quickly removed. In any case, here's what the newsletter is supposed to have said.

The newsletter said that Epic Mickey 2 should be releasing Fall 2012, will be multi-console, and feature co-op. The newsletter had the following description of the game:

"Disney Epic Mickey 2 is the latest game in the critically acclaimed Disney Epic Mickey videogame series. In this all-new action-platforming game available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii, Mickey embarks on an epic journey and is pulled back into a world filled with Disney’s forgotten characters. Players can choose to play single-player as Mickey or for the first time players can also choose 2-player split screen mode. In the 2 player mode one person can play as Mickey wielding magic paint and paint thinner to dynamically change the world and the second player can play as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit – Walt Disney’s first cartoon star – with the power to fly like a helicopter and use electricity to fight or friend enemies and solve challenges. Team-up and choose your path to save this forgotten world because the choices you make will alter the story and change the end of the game!"

Epic Mickey 2 rumors have been wandering around the internet even before Epic Mickey released. The above images came from a survey asking consumers to pick which boxart they liked the best from a few months ago, but was in no way a true confirmation of the sequel.

Hopefully it's true as an improved Epic Mickey game with co-op and HD graphics would be pretty cool.

Nice ideas, great art & atmosphere, but just make it a decent strawberry floating platform game this time.

Hope if it's true they release the original as a download for the PS360, Alice-style.

I really liked the first but gave up in frustration about 3/4 of the way through due to the bloody awful camera. It made some of the platforming so hit and miss that any enjoyment was slowly being sucked out of it. The 2D side scrolling that connected the levels were brilliant though.

I hope they go back and use the concept art style this time, it was so much nicer than the final product.

It's nice that they've decided to release it on relevant platforms this time. It's a bold move, and I hope it pays off.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Maybe I'd be interested if I was 8 years old and/or Disney and Mickey were relevant.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two revealed

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is currently in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, producer Warren Spector has announced.

Speaking in an Associated Press interview, Spector revealed that, unlike the 2010 original, the game will be a musical with full voice acting for all characters.

"I'm such a geek about musicals," he said.

"I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it's magic."

You can also expect drop-in, drop-out co-op, with one player controlling Mickey and his paintbrush, and the other playing as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who wields a remote control with which he can manipulate electricity.

"You can sit down at any time with a friend who is playing as Mickey, and you can take control of Oswald," explained Spector.

"If you're playing as a single player, Oswald will be there every second of the game. He's not just a multiplayer character. He's a helper, whether you're playing alone or with a friend or family member."

The other key focus for Spector and his team at developer Junction Point is the game's camera - much criticised in the original. He promised a much more user-friendly experience this time around.

"We've had a team working on the camera from literally the day we finished the first game. They'll be working on it until the day we ship the second game," he said.

"(There have been) over 1000 specific changes made to the camera. Our goal is that you will not have to touch the manual camera controls even once to play through the main story path of this game."

Spector didn't reveal much detail about the sequel's plot other than that it will see Mickey return to Wasteland. Similarly, no word on a release date or on the 3DS version rumoured earlier this week.

Its Wii-only predecessor picked up a middling 6/10 back in November 2010.

You'll be taking those glasses off when those sections turn out to be Kinect dancing minigames.

Agreed. Been playing through it with the kids, (well actually it's the Wife who's been playing through it with them, I just get called in to help from time to time), and it really is a mess. The camera angles are a particular nightmare.

Still, the kids love Mickey Mouse, so it's out of my hands.

(They're on their second play through as it happens).

I love the original but if sequel improves some of what original's problems are then this could be special. I welcome more Disney/Mickey Mouse platformers
