I can't imagine they'd do IX any justice from that trailer. Will wait to see if the battle system isn't garbage like every other Final Fantasy since X but I'm not holding my breath from those gifs :dread: Did they think people enjoyed FFVII because of the story or something?

Will be interesting to see if the rest of the game is as linear as they've made the few gameplay snippets from the opening mission look, too...

So the battle system looks like FFXV's. And the environments are all made in 3D and have action elements to them.

I...don't know how to feel.

It doesn't make much sense for them to modernise the look but leave the gameplay in 1997. I'm glad it's going this way. If you want the old gameplay play the old game I say.

There are things that they can do to modernise the experience that would still leave the old gameplay intact. Bravely Default is a game I can think of recently that brought turn based battling up to the present day. Things like save anywhere or controlling random encounter chances are nice features that would be a good fit for something like this. Or features to help people progress the story who aren't good at games.

This battle system they have going seems more like a Kingdom Hearts action based affair. Could be good, but they also risk alienating people who loved the game for what it was. I like turn based systems and I don't think we should leave all that behind. I will still play this when it comes out and judge it for myself.

The game has some phenomenal looking assets. The members of avalanche looked perfect in that trailer.

Really hope there's an option to turn the voices off...they sound universally awful.

Yoshinori Kitase swings by to talk about remaking fan favorite Final Fantasy VII for the PS4.

"I can’t say the new game is completely action-based, but it has more of that element and real-time than the previous game."

“However, what makes Final Fantasy and RPG different from other games is that the players have the ability to choose weapons, capabilities and magic to be strategic minded, so while the new game has more real-time element, it will also maintain that strategy building element, balancing these two factors perfectly to enhance the gaming experience."

I did, I loved the story and atmosphere but found the turn based battles to be tedious, I despised them.

No biggy - just wait until all episodes are out i suppose. Just a profit maximising technique.

It might just be spread across 2 parts which wouldn't be too bad. If it is episodic then FU square

Nothing wrong with episodic, so long as it's well-priced and released on a regular basis announced ahead of time.

This almost certainly won't happen though

Episodic? Take out the grinding and the game isn't even long.

I guess they'll be using the money made from episode one to fund the rest
