All Kojima will say about the other project is that it's something he has wanted to make for years, but that the technology has never been sufficient until now. "It's almost like a new medium," he says. "If this succeeds, it will turn things around – not just in the game industry, but in the movie industry as well." The challenge, Kojima says, is building the infrastructure: "you can have successful experiments, but there's a long distance between an experiment and a place where it's something that becomes a part of everyday usage." From a business perspective, he says, the second or third person to attempt something new is more likely to succeed commercially. "For the first person, everything is hard. But I want to be the first. I want to keep being the first."

He'll claim to have invented the first person shooter or something, except it'll be called direct camera bang bang.

I'm always up for whatever bizarre nonsense Kojima wants to make.

100%, he’s going to ‘reinvent’ the dreaded interactive Full Motion Video game again, in which some fledgling 2-bit actors prat about in front of a green screen and you occasionally press X. Forget about Night Trap and X-Files, it’s definitely taking off this time.

‘It’s just like a movie!’
‘Yeah, but it ISN’T, is it, Jim?! IT’S gooseberry fool’
‘But it’s on 42 discs!’

Imagine if Hideo Kojima and Peter Molyneux collaborated on a game.

They are both shameless self-promoters, but Kojima has a substantially better recent record to back it up!

Remember when David Perry said he was working on something like "a completely new type of game" and it turned out to be Earthworm Jim.

Yeah, it’s likely an FMV project that’s simply too big to have offline. Probably terabytes of multi-angle/multi-outcome scenes. Could be neat.

Honestly don’t understand some of the hate he gets. When was the last time he made something that actually wasn’t any good?

He hasn't made anything ground breaking imo but he's held up higher than Miyamoto in some circles which is actually f**king ridiculous.

I have no idea why they keep giving him mega budgets. The last truly good game he made was in the PS2 era.

I don't see how you can argue MGS isn't groundbreaking. It's widely cited as a landmark release and being hugely influential on the medium.

Strongly disagree! Death Stranding is up there amongst the very best.

I’d also say that PT, and how well it was received, was the catalyst for Capcom to rediscover horror with RE7.

Not to mention how forward-thinking the themes in MGS2 and Death Stranding were. Frighteningly accurate.

I think it’s easy to dunk on him for being a total dweeb, particularly if you’ve experienced little of his work, but he really is one of the few auteurs in a blockbuster industry that is completely choked by homogenisation.

Were you thinking PS1 as well?

If I used the words 'great game' I probably would've wrote PS1.

Guy is overrated as strawberry float. I don't get the love.
