The first mission where you were thrust into combat and the words "You are not expected to survive!" gave a horrific glimpse at just how bloody WW1 was with the player being unceremoniously thrust into a new character when the character they were using died.
It was brutal and set the scene perfectly.

I've just played this as I got it off the store discounted. Probably the only game I've played to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Hold R2 to simulate the senseless murder of this pointless conflict. When you get in the tank and the guys like "That's it, mow then down lads! Use that machine gun! strawberry floatin' av it".

Not to mention it's dull and pointless to play. Oh and the multiplayer has taken about 3 days to install. Very close to regretting spending that 6 quid.

I think you may have completely misinterpreted the tone they were going after. They were not glorifying war they were showing how catastrophic it was and pointing out that people were being heroic by just being part of the conflict. It's rather harsh to say the conflict was pointless as at the time the people didn't think it was and they did their duty as best they could given an almost unimaginable situation.

How would you try and portray WW1?

Honestly probably not at all on reflection, but that was just my reaction to it. I haven't played the rest of the campaign but I'm not inclined to.

Multiplayer is slightly different in that it's not a re-enactment of real conflicts although the locations are real. Anyway, apologies as I have no comment on the new game.

So deflated with this release. Hurry up and go back to the modern era.

I'd be really excited for a next gen version of Battlefield 4.

I think the game still looks good now so a next gen update could look amazing.

Sure but they looked dated on consoles. Give me Vietnam if I can’t have modern.

Out now on EA Access via the App & Origin Access Premier. Not sure about standard Origin Access.

Currently 85% on Opencritic, sounds like the campaign might be decent from the summary's there - https://opencritic.com/game/6207/battlefield-v?tab=1

As much As it looks superb and I love the look of it, it literally could be a bf1 ww2 dlc, I think they're gonna nail BR more more than any game before it though.
