It's certainly a world away from Battlefield 1 which was very somber in its tone and look. In some ways it reminded me more of Assasins Creed than Battlefield.

Ironically, the MP seems to be more realistic than previous Battlefields, maybe it's (seemingly) contrasted by the outlandish campaign.

Like my argument in the Detroit thread, games are entertainment. Just as even the most naturalistic dialogue in media is never really like actual language, historical accuracy in media is always a slave to the main goal of being entertaining.

I see literally no issue with having a woman in this game. None. Zero.

In some ways EA Dice can't really win, they put women into Battlefield 1's DLC when it was historically accurate to do so and people complained, now they do it when it isn't and people still complain.

I also have no issue with women being in this.

Neither do I Taf, I'm just highlighting if EA want a have a samurai sword wielding, Britsh commando unit and a one armed, Cockney cricket bat lady leading the charge against the Third Reich then fine, but advertise the game as some fantasy version of WWII - like Wolfenstein - not as a historically accurate take on the subject, which this clearly isn't.

No doubt some of those comments are horrendous, but as someone who loves to read up on history I've read a hell of a lot on both world wars and that BFV trailer does smack of EA having a token kick ass female protagonist to show how 'right on' they are as opposed to delivering some genuine historical accuracy. That may not be the case in the complete game, but you can't deny that trailer felt incredibly forced.

There's plenty of information available on the roles of women in WWII.

"The Soviet Union was the only major power to allow women in front-line combat roles. Some other countries allowed women to join the armed forces, but only in support roles behind the lines. The numbers were small: even in the Soviet Union women made up only 8% of the armed forces, while in the US they were just 2%. Britain had 10% and was also the first country to introduce conscription for women as well as men"

Of course that trailer looked so far away from the reality of WWII and more like a cheesy action flick I guess they can do what ever they like with it.

Is it just me or is how everyone complaining that she's disabled a bit odd? I mean, it's not like she's in a wheel chair. She's obviously lost the arm in combat, and prosthetic limbs like that existed back then. Just seems a weird thing to complain about being "PC". Bloody disabled pirates with hook hands.

I've zero problem with a female character in it, but possibly the fact the she's British is a bit odd. If this is a "real" WW2 game and not some kind of interpretation then perhaps it would make more sense for her to be a French resistance fighter. (as the map looked like France). Though there were possibly some British ladies fighting over there.

True, but the majority, in fact the entirety, of the moaning has very little to do with the ridiculousness of the woman's character model, that she looks like an extra from a MGS game, and everything to do with the fact that she's a she. They're using the 'historical accuracy' argument as an excuse to spew some truly hateful opinions.

I obviously know that's absolutely not what you're doing, but historical accuracy is very much of a muchness in any historical action game.

Hmm, this really concerns me, EA looking for more ways in which to leach money out of people. EA access, in it's current form, is good value, but I feel like it's a marketing endeavour at the moment, to get people on board. I think its all part of their desire to grow the games as service model; they want a constant revenue stream out of their user base, I find this extremely worrying.

I don't have a problem with women being in this it's just the insane pace and need for stuff to be going on everywhere at all times. It's like tactics and strategy have been thrown out the window and all that matters is all action, all the time.
Yes, sometimes I quite like going all Rambo in Battlefield games but it's not particularly effective (mainly because I'm not very good) and I mostly prefer to play as a medic or support class and that usually means being a bit more cautious and staying alive so I can help the team but I'm not going to be able to do that if I'm constantly being shot from all angles all the time because the developers decided on action at all costs was the way to go.

Yes using the historical accuracy argument to spew bilge because they feel threatened by a woman leading the charge in their war game isn't cool. At all. For me I'm just questioning, as an amateur historian, what angle EA/Dice are coming from. If EA are doing a Mel Gibson, ie "history of the world according to Mel Gibson", then fine. It's pure entertainment, nothing more and no harm done. If, however, EA are attempting to fob BFV off as some historical accurate look at WWII then it's definitely going raise a few eyebrows.

Thanks for appreciating where I'm coming from, by the way.

If the multiplayer is good, I'm in. I'm not playing these games for historical accuracy.

I wish the campaign was full on Bad Company: WW2 just to piss more people off with it's over-the-topness. Wasn't interested at all in BF1 because of its setting and the super serious tone of it all but this looks pretty good.

Grand Operations mode sounds interesting.

To be fair the women does ruin the historical accuracy and is tarnishing the memory of one of my relatives who once jumped from a three story building onto a spitfire to avoid a tiger tank.

Seriously Taf, don't do this to yourself. Unfortunately these cretins exist but they are the minority.

I wish they didn't have such long upgrade trees for unlocks. I don't have that much time to play games any more. I really enjoyed BF1, but once DLC guns came out that required hours of play to unlock and were obviously more powerful than other guns, I stopped playing. I miss games just having all the options available at the start.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Back in my day Battlefield 2 had a single unlock for each class that offered a slightly different but not better way to play; the sniper got a more powerful but slower firing rifle, the anti-tank got an SMG instead of a shotgun, that kind of thing.

Could you quote me where you are getting the leaching money out of people thing? I can't see it.

They did take an age to unlock though.

Photek wrote:Going by the Jack Frags video, I think I'll love this MP. It's getting further and further away from CoD's twitch based shooting mechanics which can only be a good thing. The Trailer is showing the campaign which is fair enough to criticize but lets be honest, Battlefields MP is what it's all about. I adored BF 4 and 1 so I'm hyped AF for this.

Hope that footage is from an X1X...

Yep it's sounding great, a bit more slower and tactical with a load of great features.

Trailer wasn't great but was showing off a load of the new features but was way too quick for anyone to notice viewing for the first time.

Looking forward to Snoop Dog & co showing the proper MP at E3.
