PostSainsbury's recalls stir fry veg because it may contain salmonella; bran flakes, plastic; & cream, listeria
by KK » Tue Feb 14, 2017 10:43 am

ITV News wrote:Supermarket chain Sainsbury's has issued a recall of a range of its stir fry products, organic cream and branflakes amidst fears of health risk.

According to information released by the Food Standards Agency the decision to recall seven items from their ready to cook stir fry pack vegetable range was taken as a "precautionary step" as the products might contain the "possible presence of salmonella" bacteria.

The supermarket chain has asked anyone with the potentially affected products not to use them and to return the packs to their nearest store for a full refund. It will also be putting up point-of-sale notices in branches to highlight the recalls.

According to the Food Standards Agency, Sainsbury's has "taken the precautionary step of recalling a number of its products" due to the possible presence of the bacterium.

Oh no....

I've already decanted my bran flakes into a plastic container.

This day has gone from bad to terrible.

I think a far bigger problem to worry about will be the use-by date of that cream!

As Stephen Fry once said, I adore Sainsbury's as it keeps the scum out of Waitrose.

Why would you bother decanting any cereal into another container as the box and bag they come in is perfectly fine.

I eat their bran flakes. I've got two boxes at home. I'll risk it.

It helps prevent vermin infestation. Mice etc can eat through cardboard cereal boxes and the light plastic bag within but if you store things such as cereal etc in sealed glass or hard plastic containers you cut off a potential food supply.

One can only assume that decanting said bran flakes into a polycarbonate container keeps the air away from the flakes and keeps the freshness in.

"Air" can permeate through cardboard and the plastic bag from which the bran flakes were first packaged. This "air" is a danger to the breakfast routine and can upset not only the rituals of the every day working man, but also the rituals of the family of the every day working man and the people that the every day working man meets during the day to day routine.

People think that Trump is the greatest threat to our society, but I truly believe that a bad breakfast due to the scourge of "air" is the greatest threat to mankind.

You are right I shop at Waitrose a lot (as it's only 5min drive from me) but also Tesco and Asda. Rarely go to Sainsbury's because my local is out of the way. Pheww

Apparently a lot of the stir fry veg has now been removed from Waitrose too. Like a lot of food, probably comes from the same manufatururing plant. The ingredient composition may change but it's all made in the exact same place.

Wouldn't you notice massive holes in the boxes that the cereal flows out of when you pick it up?
Would that not give you a clue that something may be up and you may have a rodent problem?

Just saying that if you read almost any guide on deterring vermin taking a shine to your house in the first place they advise to store any foods that come in a cardboard box in glass or hard plastic containers instead.

Not if someone leaves the box partially open allowing easy access for the whiskered little buggers.

Around 15 years ago we had a mouse infestation which we thought was confined to the loft (the little strawberry floaters ate a 5kg bag of cat biscuits up there) until one morning when after eating 2/3rds of a bowl of rice krispies I noticed what I thought was a 'burnt' one floating in the milk so removed it from the bowl only to realise it was a piece of mouse gooseberry fool.

I don't eat Rice Krispies any more.
