Actual reviewers have convinced me to continue to buy this. VG/EG/IGN etc. It's a 6/7 game (with bugs) that will appeal to fans, but fails to do anything to elevate it or move the formula. Fine. That sounds fun.

Spare me hyperbolic influencers and their gurning faces as the desperately fish for watch minutes.

Big shame I was looking forward to this but after watching a few video reviews it seems rather unpolished and doesn't look like a next-gen game at all.

Jackfrags had some co-op gameplay which looked fun but wasn't really a review just him and someone else doing stupid stuff, but there seemed to be nothing new to want to get it at launch. Have a feeling it'll be on Gamepass in the next 6 months or so.

From all accounts you really, really don't need to.

Just started this, it's ok so far. No male cockney voice is criminal though.

So far the new saints are nothing compared to the old team.

Barely done any of the story. Just been exploring and doing the Jim Robs missions. I'm enjoying it a lot.

I'm probably still going to buy it anyway when I get paid. I love mindless open world fuckery.

Been messing around with this tonight. It has a lot of performance options, I'm going for 60fps mode. It looks nice at times, just a standard open world game, more last gen than next gen.

The open world so far is pretty flat, but the different Gangs look really unique and have special weapons and troops.

The weapon shops are back and you can buy and upgrade lots of weapons, each with a unique special power. It's well done as always.

Combat feels fine, I really like the skills and how they mix up gameplay. I have one which puts a grenade down the pants of an enemy and then throws them into the crowd. It's very saints row and fun when it gets busy.

I feel as I get more weapons and skills it'll get a lot more crazy and that'll be more like the older games. So far no bugs or crashes on PS5.

Well after a few hours this seems ‘fun’

Haven’t seen any bugs but an NPC just disappeared in front of me after giving quest

The reflections in water though. Dear god

The game is getting better the more I play it. Very low levels of NPCa on th street but the game runs smooth enough.

I did a main mission which was basically Mad Max Fury Road with motor bikes jumping about the place and even a crazy drive into the dust storm. Really enjoyable.

The wingauit is great and the mini rampage causes by submitting poor restaurant reviews is a great way to level up and unlock gun signature abilities.

It's not Elden Ring, but it's certainly not GTA trilogy remaster. It's good fun and open the world chaos.

I think it'll get cheap very fast, so if you can wait a few weeks it'll be worth it. By black Friday this will be £20 at amazon.

I'm going to try to focus on the main missions to unlock stuff as I've been messing about too much and I need to unlock some background income generation.

Yeah, I think you're right. In the past I've not been keen on the vibe of Saints Row games - just not my bag! - but this one does look interesting.

Yep I'm thinking it's probably a black Friday grabber for me.

Continued on with it more last night after the 16GB update which seems to have been background optimisations and not a lot else.

Got to the point where I get the criminal empire board, so of course I had to set up the one that gives me insurance fraud immediately. Had fun running through all six of those, and love the fact you can start an insurance fraud anywhere having completed that criminal venture. Been exploring a bit away from the missions, and found I do enjoy the atmosphere of the world Volition has created. Sure, NPC vehicles do seem to spawn in and out at random when they're far enough from you, and some of the streets can be a bit lifeless, but it's still a nice enjoyable world to be exploring.

In regards to the story... It's just enough absurd that it feels Saints Row, but there's a straight lace to it where it feels it wants to be taken seriously. Take the whole Marshall Defence Industries opening. Three days in a job like that, where the first is typical Saints Row absurdity (including the boss not shutting up about needing a bonus), but the end cutscene wants you to feel bad they didn't get the bonus. Repeat for day 2, and then for day 3 when they get fired. Such tonal disparity feels jarring, and I have a feeling it'll continue throughout. It does serve the purpose of getting these four roommates started in their criminal empire, since the narrative flows naturally enough.

Ah! I missed that you had the game, Rula! Seems that you're enjoying it so far... is there a possibility that it'd be a game that you'd stream?

Well, I was going to be streaming it launch day, but I still had the last remnants of a bad cough so couldn't. And the internet had been playing up a bit that day so probably wouldn't have been able to anyway. Now it's gone... who knows? I could easily do what I did for Watch Dogs Legion and just explore the world for a few hours.

I enjoyed your Legion streams; I think that was the first time that I'd seen the Xbox Series S in action and I was impressed by the puddle reflections :-). If you were to showcase Saints Row, I would take a look!
