Volition's next entry in the Saints Row series is titled Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell and sends the franchise to the afterlife in 2015.

According to a trailer that debuted at PAX Prime today, the Saints are sucked into Hell via ouija board and battle demons. The game features online co-op for two players. The game's version of Hell will be about half the size of Saints Row 4's Steel Port.

Players will get access to a handful of new weapons, including the Arm Chairmageddon, a La-Z-Boy with guns, the Energy Caster, a Locust Gun and a weapon that fires a plague of frogs.

Developed by Volition and High Voltage Software, Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is a standalone expansion and won't require a copy of Saints Row 4 to play.

Gat Out of Hell will retail for $19.95 and will be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on Jan. 27, 2015.

Honestly, I'm surprised.

I fully expected a spiritual successor to Saints Row, but this ain't what I meant.

Cross-gen and just an expansion :(

But still, love Saints Row.

Saints Row 4 also getting a HD edition remake on current gen. I quite enjoyed 4, was good fun.

Overall, I think I preferred The Third: There's an awful lot of checkpoint chasing in IV, and an awful lot of revisiting that strawberry floating bar.

IVs still very enjoyable though.

Additionally, Saints Row 4 is getting remastered on PS4 and Xbox One in Saints Row 4: Re-elected, which will include the upcoming expansion. Both Re-elected and Gat out of Hell standalone are due on 30th January in the UK, and 27th January in the US.

Awesome, i was wondering where they could take it after the end of 4, but this looks interesting and is a nice surprise.

Definite purchase on this. If it's included in the PS4 remake of SR4 then I'll go with that.

Saints Row 4 can be Game of the Year in 2 different years now. Shame it's not coming out this year so that it can beat The Last of Us in Game of the Year twice.

Better feature a Meatloaf cameo.

Remember when this was a slightly duff gangster GTA clone? Has any franchise taken as weird a route as Saints Row?

The first Saints Row is about the only one you could really call a GTA clone. From pretty much SR2 it was off doing its own thing.

I think they will have to reboot the series for the next game. It's the only real cure for spectacle creep.

The end of the last game seemed to imply there would be a way to bring the Earth back though. Perhaps through the Saints going off and conquering alien planets, or some kind of time travel malarkey.

Saints Row 7 will be the world's finest 4X game. In 20 years time, every single genre will have a Saints game.

Heard a great idea that Volition should skip Saints Row V and just go straight to VI. Even have characters reference the events of the non-existent V.

Seems pretty far to go for a joke.
