Yeah. I know he'd been treated for a growth, but this was a sudden development, as evidenced by the surprise in the tributes from Miyamoto and Masuda - the latter said he'd been well when he'd seen him just a few days prior.

Still, maybe he knew, or just suspected...

Why would he say goodbye to the west and not Japan? Makes no sense. And if he knew, he wouldn't have kept it a secret - he was Nintendo through and through, he'd have made provisions for his departure. One of his closest friends, Shigesato Itoi, didn't know. This wasn't expected.

I remember a couple of years back I mentioned (here I think) that he lost a lot of weight thinking that it was due to the stresses of work but did mention that he had health problems.
Thanks Iwata for making a considerable part of my childhood a happy one, say what you like about the man I know I had a few gripes over some of the decisions made. It's clear to see he is a true visionary, stubborn and relentless in realising his goals let's hope the Nintendo NX proves everyone wrong including myself and becomes a success. Like I said true visionary has that Steve Jobs -esque way of thinking different and both pass away quite young.

RIP Iwata-San

Japan has had a drip feed of new Mother games.

16,000 people so far have signed a petition asking Nintendo to make a commemorative Iwata amiibo

I understand the good intentions but I think that is a really bad idea.

So long as they give them away and don't sell them I don't see the problem. Supply and demand will be an issue though, even more so than with regular amiibo.

Make something and give it to people for free

Why would they do that.

There's no chance that will happen free or otherwise.

If Nintendo *was* going to do this - and it isn't - then surely it would be better to release it at the standard amiibo price and for the proceeds to go to cancer charities.

(I'm also not sure why it'd be fine if they made them but gave them away for free, but problematic otherwise.)

If the profit went to charity (maybe some of it could go into some sort of support for young developers thing) I'd be all for it. In fact its a lovely idea.

I found this picture while looking for them standing in a triangle holding their hands together. Why don't I remember this?

E3 2013. Another barrel shot. What CEO would do ridiculous gooseberry fool like this?

Photos of Iwata taken in June 2015. I've seen a few of my grandparents waste away due to cancer or old age, he just reminds me of that. The fact that he continued to work while obviously not being in the greatest health, he is a champ.

Edit - Sorry, was a champ. strawberry float :(

Truth.

The Final Bosman video was great. Very sincere.

I played through Kirby's Dream Land last night, and posted the "Thanks for playing" screen onto Miiverse.

It is really hard to watch people wither from cancer, the weight loss is really shocking and it suddenly gets very bad very fast and too weak to do anything, which is probably what happened. Then they just.. die. :(

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Have this on the backlog, never played it before. Must get around to it.

Edit - for some reason, I read that as Dream Course, another Iwata game. Dream Land is pretty good. Sequel improves on it and then some.
