Being able to call in airstrikes at will and acting as the spotter for a sniper is a fun combo. I'm basically a man with some binoculars causing chaos.

I tried the about lady but she never seemed to hit anyone I pointed her at. Ditto with the airstrike guy (who I called down on a hostage rescue mission and who bombed the gooseberry fool out of the whole place whilst somehow leading the cultists alive)

Sounds like they're a lot more competent for me

Perhaps too competent. With the above combo I was indefinitely holding out against capture parties that were trying to force me into the next story abduction.

There was also a side mission for destroying three convos. The first I took out with proximity mines on the road, which was very satisfying. The second two I just chased in a car until I got close enough to call in airstrikes. Also very satisfying.

Every time a plane or helicopter starts coming after me when I'm on foot I just call in air support and he shoots them down too.

As for sniper lady, she has been pinpoint accurate for me so far.

She got stuck on a lot of trees for me and kept shouting about changing position! Swapped her out for the dog

I finished the main storyline yesterday and was genuinely surprised by the ending (at least the one I ended up with). Not in a good way, of course, it's fairly poor but I didn't see it coming so it had that going for it at least.

I'll no doubt keep playing this for ages as I love the general gameplay of Far Cry, and this is no exception. However, the 'boss fights' are really gooseberry fool, and I seriously didn't like the whole thing of just being randomly captured by whichever of them when I was quite happy messing around in Hope County on my own terms.

Overall though, just a whole load of fun as usual, with cracking action sequences and gunplay, loads of mad situations to get caught up in, and the sheer joy of piloting a helicopter gunship.

Great game.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

Finished the main story today too, really didn't expect it to end the way it did, but i thought the twist was actually kinda neat.

Can't finish a couple of the side missions though because of a bug which has stopped a couple of collectables from appearing on the map.

Funnily enough, in the last hour or so I've been thinking about it a bit more and I'm coming round to it. I think it struck me as a bit out of nowhere, but after a bit of reading on the internet, it turns out I simply hadn't been paying attention to the things that were being reported on the radio throughout the game.....

Serves me right, I suppose. Anyway, still love the game overall!

I've actually changed my mind on this somewhat. I still think the story and forced cutscenes are absolute bobbins but the rest of the game is structured really well and the moment to moment combat and exploration is excellent. It helps that I'm onto the Faith region now, which is much more interesting than John and his nonsensical Yes shite.

Jeff Gurstman had a major issue with elements of the story being told over the radio meaning you could miss a lot of information if you don't use cars so I don't think it's just you.

I don't use cars much and when I do I've been turning the radio off because it's a bit rubbish...

Not sure if it's worth my changing that. Driving seems pointless when you have to get out every 15 seconds to deal with the next event.

Anyway, I've just been playing this and I'm enjoying the freedom of having already been captured in this area twice, so I'm not in imminent danger of being pulled out of my current flow.

That probably explains it - I've barely used cars at all throughout they game. Only when it's forced on me in fact, I think.

I've used cars a reasonable amount and haven't heard anything but music. Having played a bit more (ie having killed John), I agree with one of the comments on the RPS article I quoted before:

It's seemingly obvious that the original plot would have had the cult setting off the nukes. You see three of them detonate, one for each Herald, and it's established early on that the Peggies have taken over Montana's nuke silos. If so, it looks like the devs chickened out and stuck some brief "oh no, the world is on the edge of nuclear war" radio broadcasts into the cars that almost no-one heard.

Here's the article again in case anyone missed it

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/0 ... g-history/

It does a very good job of establishing just how awful the ending is, and how amazing it seems to think it is.

Oh, and for people with Netflix playing this, I cannot recommend Wild Wild Country highly enough. It's a documentary on, well, the plot of Far Cry 5. Only, in real life. An Indian guru moves his cult to rural Oregon and builds a city of 10 000 people. To say more would spoil it but the similarities between Eden's Gate and the Rajneeshpurams are many.

Thanks for the links mate. I really enjoyed the RPS write up: it echoes many of my own thoughts about the game... Yet still seems quite harsh, really. Reading about it and....I don't know, thinking about it all of the complaints are totally legit and yeah, the story is shite. But I don't really mind while I'm playing. It's not a game where the story matters in any meaningful way as far as I am concerned (although I can see that a Far Cry with a more serious story is an interesting and fairly tantalising prospect).

Whatever. I totally agree with an awful lot of the issues with the game that I've read about, and simultaneously I think it's a thoroughly enjoyable thing to play.

Killed my first Lieutenant tonight.

Goddamn the checkpointing in missions in this game is bad. After killing John when you have to enter the base, I died in the first room. It respawned me outside where the mission starts, but with a ton of enemies suddenly spawned there too. I died instantly. Even restarting the mission didn't solve it. I had to resort to desperately fleeing as soon as it loaded in and then calling in airstrikes just to get back to the point I should have started at. Things like that should have easily been caught in testing. There was some bad checkpointing later in that mission too.

On the positive side, I've taken to using 2 sniper partners, positioning them on differing sides of a camp, then either sneaking in with a bow myself or sitting back and calling in the shots. Great fun!

My favourite experience so far was during the plane chase at the end of John's region. As I was catching up to him in my plane, I obviously strayed too close to a hostage mission on the ground that I had yet to complete. Just as I was about to shoot him down, a "Mission Failed" screen appears for the hostage task and the game reset me to the airfield. :|

I'm glad I decided to wait and see such out of this age God of War to pick up first

Hopefully the bugs will be fixed by the time this comes up in a sale.

Nah man, the bugs are half the fun! I haven't seen anything game breaking yet, and when a moose randomly pops into existence 2 feet from your nose is strawberry floating brill.
