Also, I'm in for both Nintendo and Sony tomorrow so I may well liveblog those if people are interested.

http://www.coveritlive.com/index.php?op ... 0ea7e6268c for the Nintendo one. Still trying to get into Sony's thanks to epic PR fail. Either way I might not have enough juice to do both, but will keep you posted throughout the Nintendo conference. If I can find a place to charge up my laptop in between, I might just do that.

The 3DS wasn't playable in the theatre, it was just a thing you could view 3D images, or so i've heard...

Hey chaps.

Sorry about today, I was busy drinking absinthe and talking to Ethan off of Lost.

Oh no wait, that was this drunken debauchery of an evening. Unfortunately, neither Nintendo nor Sony saw fit to provide decent Wi-Fi. Hence no liveblog.

Today then.

3DS is incredible. Literally everyone I've spoken to is blown away by it. Ocarina of Time 3D at launch? Hello. Pikmin? Hey, why not. Kid Icarus? Sure, if you don't mind. Wii-quality visuals but sharper because they're on a smaller screen. Kinda looks a bit Wii HD. The slideshow with a Mario Galaxy still gave me a semi.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is just strawberry floating lovely - amazing art style, fabulous to play. Co-op? Sure. Wowsers. Best surprise of the show, perhaps.

For me, Nintendo's conference just edges out Microsoft and then Sony, whose two hours dragged like a mummy strawberry floater. All the bloggers whooped, but otherwise the audience reaction was muted. Kevin Butler? Fun, but massively self-indulgent - a nod to the US crowd, but irrelevant to the majority of the worldwide audience. PSP gets...a new ad campaign? Smacked of desperation stakes. Killzone 3D? Gun has depth, background seemed flat. Everyone I spoke to agreed; needs work.

Elsewhere: Vanquish disappoints, Child of Eden is godly. More impressions tomorrow.

I think the Galaxy still was just used to show off the 3D effects.

Can you ask if there is a classic controller option for Zelda or how people with limited arm movements due to disablity can play the game, thanks.

There's not. It's MotionPlus enhanced for (sort of) 1:1 sword swinging.

Demo was very short, maybe 15 minutes long, so it's hard to effectively judge. Controls are great, art style's really nice (background has a watercolour, Impressionistic look to it which means it can have a decent draw distance but keep things slightly fuzzy.

Aonuma talked about Link originally being from a place in the clouds called Skyloft, and at the end of the trailer he dives down to the land you play in during the demo, so it seems you'll be spending some time in the sky too. I'd be surprised if you didn't get to actually skydive as Link - a la Wii Sports Resort. I wanted to ask that as the last question, but the guy with the mic went over to someone else instead. :(

EDIT: Of everything I played on the Nintendo stand, 3DS impressed me the most, but in terms of software, I'd have to pick Kirby. It really was great fun, and it looks absolutely gorgeous in motion. Enjoyed it more than DKCR, whose controls - and the weight of the protagonist - took a bit of getting used to.

I have lots of questions HoC so can we make sure this topic stays when the folder is closed.

First off; Whats the 3d image like, I've read people saying it looks like a full object infront of you!? Is that true because I was worried it would be a slightly iffy layering effect like you get with red/blue glasses from basic images in comics.

The 3D effect varies - at times it's like there's a depth to the screen, at others it's like there's something out in front. When the Nintendog bounded up to me it was like it was poking its little head out of the screen. There's also a great bit in the MGS non-interactive (well, you can move the camera) demo where a guard is reaching around for the packed of cigarettes he's dropped and it's like he's reaching out of the screen to get them.
