Except he's wrong, scooped ice cream can offer so much more that your standard machine pumped vanilla.
EDIT: I used to work at McDonald's and although they have very high hygiene standards, I've no doubt of the state that those ice cream machines could get into if not thoroughly cleaned every day. And you've all seen the state of your average ice cream van man, d'you reckon they scrub their machine every night?
