I haven't browsed the forum all week so I've only just seen this thread. Such awful news. My condolences to Scotty's family.

No way I'm googling that

It was a spin-off forum from the GamesRadar days, set up by Toxic I think. I had an account for a while I think.

It was Sillysprout, was it not? Toxic was involved in one of the other offshoots, Gamufi or Random Fury possibly.

You are quite right sir. Sorry Sprout.

Poop Gang was Sprouty, Random Fury was Toxic, Sniper Monkey was Cobra, Gamufi was Gavin83 and Waking Limb was weird.

I’ve been thinking on this for quite a while now since I read MCN and Lewis posting about what the forum he meant to them over the years.

It’s strange how things have worked out like that. I won’t pretend it’s been a life changing experience for me or that I’d be in a completely different place if it weren’t for here, certainly not to the extent of Lewis, but there have been a lot of great positive effects - I have some great friends now who I would never have met otherwise, and who as luck would have it have been based in the same city for a long time. That’s been great.

Quite apart from that, from the 2004-2007 period there was a fantastic community of people who posted here who made what was a very difficult period of my life a whole lot easier simply by virtue of the fact that they were on the other end of a computer screen when I needed to get away from real life for a bit. We all moved on eventually, but I’d like to think the other guys enjoyed the chats as much as I did. It’s nice to periodically see or receive updates on how they’re doing through here as well.

I probably haven’t expressed my appreciation for that enough over the years, and I guess I’ll never get the chance to with Scott, but it’s always there.

It scares me a little to think that I was 13 when I joined gamesradar. I’ll be 29 later this year. That’s more than half a lifetime ago. There will be others in the same boat as me I’m sure - Karl, Mini E, perhaps Drumstick or even DML.

So yeah, that was a little bit rambly but it’s been a reflective couple of days.

I loved WL. Every six months or so Elbo will post something on the forum there - it’s completely dead now otherwise.

I had no idea it still existed! No activity for 6 years now though :(

This, pretty much. I met a few peeps, chalky and Banjo (as well as Gaz and Pan but they don't count. For anything) but this place has basically been my homepage for coming on 15 years (if you count my time at GamesRadar). It's frankly amazing that this place is still going at all, which is not only down to people like GG, Karl and the mods but all you lot who keep turning up.

I was in Cardiff with nout to do, he noticed on here and reached out to see if I wanted to hang out. I had a thoroughly lovely evening where I got far too drunk and literally faceplanted after tripping on the extended leg of a crowd barrier on the way into a bar.

He’s a good bloke is Banjo, to be fair to him. It’s been nice having him around Glasgow the last few years for beer trips, cinema trips, general fannying about and whatnot. He’s looked after Loki and Maia a few times as well, really helped out. All round good guy, IMO - I’m glad to call him a good mate.

He’d never let me live down being so complimentary so I’d also like to point out that he is also a terrible bastard.

It's also funny how much someone's avatar defines what you think they'll look like. For some reason I was expecting some bulking great black guy with massive hair

and that's what I got. I may have been talking to the wrong guy all night

I still remember our MSN chats that would go on alllll day.

Not quite. I joined this community in Feb 2004 when I was 16, I'll be 31 in August.

Over the years I've met so many people from this place (lots who don't post here anymore, it's a coincidence, honest). I've been thankful to call many friends, a couple even attended my wedding last year. I suppose GR has always been here and for that I'm eternally grateful.

Found GR when I was 9, and I'm 25 now. If this forum lasts another couple of years then I will've been here for 2/3rds of my life. I pretty much can't remember not being a member.

I really should make a better effort to get to know people here I think. I really enjoyed the Glasgow meet I went to years ago, meeting Anung, Bunni, Falsey, Cora, Ed Byrne lookalike Banjo, there were others too but um....sorry it was a few years ago so I don't entirely recall!

It's strange to already be at a point where forumites are being mourned, 30 is no age to go at all. Scotty's name is familiar but I honestly can't recall any real interaction with him, but it is rather heartening to see people rallying round to remember him.

I remember when everyone had Crackdown and was furiously wanking over the Halo 3 beta and I happened to have a RRoD the day before the beta started. MS took over 2 months to fix and return it too, so I missed it. I think.
