I don't think "picking a side" is a good idea. You should vote for whoever runs with the best policies and has the best intrests for the country come election time. Putting a sign in the ground and saying "I'm voting for x for the rest of my life" is a very bad idea in my opinion.

Especially in a system we have now where all 3 of the major parties are so similar, it's foolish to support one over the other as as a voter you're allowing them to do whatever they want, rather than voting for the best party when the time comes.

I wouldn't vote for any of the three major parties because they're so similar. None of them know what they're doing.

Choosing a side doesn't mean you're getting married, you're allowed to change your mind if you're unhappy you know. Do you think we should switch off until the run up to the election?

Yeah Nicola Sturgeon is pretty much a shoe-in for the job I reckon although I'm sure there's some due process to be observed.

My opinion of Alec Salmond has fluctuated greatly over the years, but I've always considered him (sometimes grudgingly) to be a canny politician. I think he has conducted himself with dignity and accepted defeat with magnanimity.

I wonder if he'll now be off to the Hoose Of Lords.

Nothing says "I'm taking a firm stand against the Tory party" like voting lib dem!

 Well, that's convinced me: yellow 4 life.

It'd be nice to see the man off with a bit more strawberry floating grace than calling him "dear leader".

Like I said in the thread, I laughed but that logo is pretty offensive. Change it back to normal.

Must be hugely disappointing for Salmond but no, I have zero sympathy for the man. In fact I'm delighted he isn't going to be leader of his country.

The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them in parliament.

That would be true if there was any opposition to the Tories. As it is, Scotland will vote Labour thinking they aren't Tories - of course we know they are the same now.

It won't matter though, how funny, because the next government WILL be a Tory one. Ed Milliband couldn't run a Costa, let alone a country.

Seems odd that it's Unionists who started it (from what I can tell). They got the result they wanted so no idea why they're starting gooseberry fool, talk about kicking people when they're down.

Are they going to replace Salmond with Sturgeon straight away or do you think they'll need some time to mullet over?

Going by the "We are the people" comment and the colours they're all wearing, I am going to say that it is indeed the Orange Lodge crowd making idiots of themselves. As usual.

On the One Show:

Alex Evans: This afternoon Alex Salmond has resigned, how do you feel about that.
John Hannah: I think, David Cameron... it would be nice for him to follow suit.

*awkward silence followed by awkward laughter then cheers from behind the cameras*
