Please don't laugh but I'm sure I've heard that Scotland have different money to England. Same currency but different notes. Am I right? Thinking I'll probably just use my card to buy things as I'm up there on Wednesday, unless English notes are accepted.

Your notes will be fine, it's the other way around that's the problem.

You'll have to change any change you get back when you return though because some idiot cashiers in England are easily confused. Same goes for any Bank of Ireland or Ulster Bank notes.

They are not legal tender but are legal currency.

Bring lots of notes back to England, shops love them.

It's "Scottish," not "Scotch." I am not a bottle of whisky.

I know, I lived there for 6 years.

I was showing ignorance by mocking their currency, whilst simultaniously making a fool of myself by not even knowing what to call them.

Apologies. I normally don't mind English ignorance but being called Scotch really does my tits in.

One of life's little 'chuckle to oneself' moments I used to have was getting off the plane from Scotland at London City and hailing a cab. The cabby was invariably infuriated as I wasn't a city boy bunging him a 40 quid fair - but rather 8 quid up the road to my flat. I would then ask for a receipt.. And then cap it off by getting rid of the remainder of my monopoly money to settle the bill. Often a category B swear word or two to wave me off :) :)

£8 from an airport in London? Did you live in Hounslow? :dread:

To be fair you never see Scottish/NI notes in England, so it's not exactly shocking when people don't recognise them or question their validity. Why we can't just all use the same, I don't know.

Generally isn't worth the hassle.
