PostRe: Sea of Thieves (XB/PC) - Season 8 launches on 22nd Nov.

Summary -

In Season Eight, Rare has added a whole new dimension to PvP gameplay. Now bloodthirsty PvP pirates can choose their faction and opt in to PvP gameplay and paint a target on their back. If they want to jump straight into the action, they can use the war map to dive their ship below the waves and re-emerge, matched up with an opponent to do battle. The more ships you sink for your faction, the more allegiance and rewards you earn!

This all takes place within the same shared world, so note that this doesn't change the current PvP set up. You will still meet hostile pirates on the seas. But it does give aggressive players a way of meeting like-minded opponents and a new meta to occupy themselves with.

Sounds like the final ruination of the game for PvE players. While you're being attacked by a PvP player, another PvP player will teleport in and make it even harder to get away without being sunk.

No, the 2 PvP ships will go to their own server. Should encourage the more aggressive players away from PvE.

Yep, if anything this should make SoT’s less hostile as they will be heading off to the PVP servers, it’s entirely opt in, they can’t come from below the waves to attack players who haven’t actively chosen that they want to play PVP.

It’s kinda ingenious. If you have a full crew and get bored and want some PVP you can opt in and it will migrate you while below the waves to PVP servers and you can have some ship combat.

Full stream -

Sea of Thieves Fifth Anniversary Celebrations and a First Look at Season Nine

Summary

Today’s livestream announced Sea of Thieves’ fifth anniversary celebrations, promising bonuses, supersized in-game events and feature-length documentary ‘Sea of Thieves: Voyage of a Lifetime’
The celebrations also include a jam-packed Community Weekend, which will see 50m Ancient Coins given away throughout the period
The Sea of Thieves Season Nine Content Update trailer also premiered during today’s broadcast, offering a first look at the update coming to shores March 16

More details - https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2023/03/06/ ... -season-9/

Season 9 starts 16th March -

Season Nine’s headlines include a high-value loot item named the Chest of Fortune, which brings its own new Commendations and cosmetics. Players can also expect linked changes to Reaper’s Chests, new Voyages for Captains and Pirate Legends, World Events being better balanced based on crew size and much, much more – including 100 more levels of Seasonal progression for players to work through and earn rewards by raising Renown!

Community feedback has fuelled a lot of Season Nine’s changes and updates, with improvements coming to harpooning treasure, the introduction of a food radial menu and seagulls circling the loot from sunken player ships. Reapers will no longer be able to run into the Devil’s Shroud to make their treasures inaccessible, with loot from these out-of-bounds running ships now spawning to a safer spot nearby – a fairer outcome for chasing crews.

We’ll be revealing more about Season Nine in a Deep Dive video soon, with our developers spilling the beans on new features and their design intent

Sea of Thieves: Voyage of a Lifetime

On the anniversary itself, March 20, we’ll be premiering a feature-length documentary about the journey of Sea of Thieves from inception through to today. Featuring previously unseen footage and a candid look at the highs and lows of Sea of Thieves’ development and release, this honest and in-depth doc pulls back the curtain and shows the game’s evolution in the most detailed and raw way it’s ever been discussed.

It feels more like a patch than a new season, but all welcome changes nonetheless and of course a new season always means new gooseberry fool to collect so it's all good.

The harpoon thing is a huge step up and all the QOL changes are really good for single or 2 player crews, making events easier because of crew size was badly needed.

Split across three hilarious Tall Tales packed with secrets and side-quests, Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island invites pirates to meet classic characters, in a new narrative that brings the iconic locations of Monkey Island to the Sea of Thieves.

The adventure begins on Mêlée Island, where pirates can take in the sights, smells and roguish splendor of the island as they seek to uncover why everyone suddenly seems to think quite highly of self-proclaimed mighty pirate, and known poodle pacifier, Guybrush Threepwood. Something's quite clearly wrong...

This love-letter to the classic adventure game series will be available to play alone or with a crew, with three Tall Tales being added over three months as free* updates for all players, starting July 20.

*Delivered for free to owners of any Sea of Thieves edition and all Xbox Game Pass members. Game on console requires Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Live Gold, sold separately.

Even though moving Season Ten back wasn’t something we were eager to do, the shuffle has opened up an opportunity: it’s meant that we’ve been able to take what was originally targeted as the next Season’s headline content and make it part of Season Ten. The current plan is for this to launch in the second month of Season Ten, which would mean players getting two headliner features in as many months.
