FOLLOW THE TRAIL OF RIDDLES AND RUMOURS

The Sea of Thieves changes as often as the tides, so don't miss out! Join this time-limited adventure that leads from the outpost taverns to lonely, forgotten isles, piecing together the tale of Merrick the bard and his brush with hungering horror. Those who can find him and untangle his groggy recollection of events can join the hunt for his nemesis – and reap the rewards!

NEW FEATURES RISE FROM THE DEEP

The Hungering Deep adds these permanent new features to the ongoing Sea of Thieves experience.

New Threat! Such a monstrous peril won't be easily vanquished. The risk of encountering it out at sea will live on.

Drums! On the Sea of Thieves, it pays to bang your own drum. Pirate percussionists can let loose with this new instrument and play shanties with a bit more impact.

Speaking Trumpets! All that drumming drowning out your orders? Use the new speaking trumpet to be heard at a distance and find other crews on the same voyage.

Flags! Discover a new way to signal your intentions to other crews. Forge new friendships, or find new foes…

Tattoos and Scars! The Hungering Deep expands the vanity chest: choose your tattoos and scars to tell your own pirate story.

I've been playing this every couple of days and it's still active but there's far less Galleon's about and far more sloops, I mean I seen a sloop tackling a skull fort! I offered to help but they kept killing me but I sank them once.

Anyway, I really want to do a skull fort some time, I reckon 3 of us minimum would suffice. Also, there's a massive increase in the amount of sharks in the water now, anchoring your ship as close as possible to land is a must.

This week's update introduces The Hungering Deep, the first step in our post-release content plan. A new and not inconsiderable threat to seafarers is joined by a raft of other additions, including a voyage of discovery upon which you'll cross paths with Merrick himself.

The Hungering Deep
This content release introduces and showcases a raft of new features, all of which will be persist in Sea of Thieves beyond Merrick's story and its time limited campaign.

Bilge Rats - To stay in the know as to what is changing in the Sea of Thieves, visit the Bilge Rat character in the taverns to discover what time-limited events are active. Whether it’s The Hungering Deep or future events, this is the place to go!
New Threat - Something old, vast and hungry is surfacing. Follow the trail of riddles and rumours. We hope you live to tell the tale.
Speaking Trumpet - Parley! Let other ships know if you are friend or foe with the new Speaking Trumpet, making yourself heard from longer distances. The first Speaking Trumpet is obtainable through The Hungering Deep campaign, but purchasable variants will be arriving in the shops in the near future.
Ship's Flags - Want to sink and plunder, or seek allies to adventure with? Let your intentions be known with new flags which can be raised high above your ship! Climb up to the crow's nest and decide which to raise.
Drum- BOOM! Pirate percussionists (inspired by Merrick himself) can now be heard all across the seas. The first drum is obtainable through The Hungering Deep campaign, but purchasable variants will be arriving in the shops in the near future.
Tattoos - Many pirates wanted them and now they are here! Check out the vanity chest for 16 sailor tattoo sets and visit the clothing shop on outposts for stocks of four purchasable tattoo sets.
Scars - What enemies have fallen to your pirate might? Scars earned through campaigns and events such as The Hungering Deep will allow you to tell a story of your pirate's history and adventures. These are not purchasable, they must be earned.

I'm getting closer to the end, thing is, many MANY players have rinsed it and are back just questing about which means they are shooting on sight. On Tuesday everyone co-operated cos you need at least 5 people playing on the drum to awake the massive shark thing but last night I was getting attacked by a galleon, I did however keep finding them and running boat into them, didn't sink them but killed one, I did shout some expletives using the megaphone thing!

I feel fighting the boss has passed now as people have done it and it'll be hard to find a full galleon to co-op with.

I went back to this for a couple of hours yesterday with an actual friend and it still felt pretty empty. You have to travel 15 minutes or so to get to each objective and I just don't have that much spare time anymore. The sailing elements almost act as time sinks for people who can spend all day playing games.

When we got to the objectives we would normally get killed as a lot of the community are aggressive. You now spawn on the ship miles away so you have to travel all the way back. When you do it is a case of once again sailing all the way to the objective.

It was fun in co-op, but it felt more like a phone conversation with some nonsense in the background. I think the game needs a lot more content yet.

I still enjoy sailing about but it does need content, 3 big updates to come by years end, this latest one is the smallest in comparison apparently.

I am looking forward to the skeleton thrones in a couple of weeks. Skeleton thrones will be in hard to access areas of islands and you have to find a way to get up to them, some requiring astute cannon firing of yourself.

I would like a fast travel option, which kind of undermines the entire sailing element of the game!

It would just a bit. I have to say, when the lighting is right (which is A LOT of the time) and the wind is behind you it's stunning to look at, I'm on an X1X but I reckon on a 4K HDR it must be ridiculously pretty at times.

It so is. I've come out of the inn on the clifftop at one of the outposts to see truly spectacular sunrises or sunsets, with fantastic light-on-the-water effects. The starry skies look amazing too.

Was watching Waypoint stream this on Friday night and they managed to get a few other ships to help them fight the Megalodon. It looks like so much fun and really showed the game off at its best (starts at around 1h 10mins in the vid)

Teaser trailer & stats at E3. 1st weekly event starts on 12th June, sounds like the skeleton thrones.

Patch Notes 1.1.1 -

If you haven't yet spoken to 'Merry' Merrick and followed his riddles and rhymes to the hungering beast, you have another week to do so! Start your Hungering Deep journey here and check out the shiny items that can still be earned!

Patch 1.1.1 also brings multiple fixes for known issues, as well as improvements to the recently introduced Open and Closed Crews.

Updates
Open/Closed Crew - You can now dynamically change whether your crew is Open or Closed while out on the seas. This option can be toggled from within the 'My Crew' menu.
Athena's Fortune Rewards - The chances of finding more valuable rewards have been increased. Pirate Legends and their crews can now expect to see higher rewards when embarking on their Athena's Fortune voyages.

Performance Improvements
Further improvements to frame rate when streaming islands.
Improvement to frame rate when player is walking or running.
Multiple server and client crash fixes.
Further improvements and optimisations for all platforms are ongoing.

Fixed Issues
Washed-up items and messages in bottles have returned to the shorelines once more!
Dropping Skeleton Fort keys in water will no longer prevent them from being picked up again.
Athena's Fortune Bounty Quest skeletons will now correctly spawn on Thieves' Haven.
If you encounter this issue, please submit a bug report to our Player Support Team with as much detail as possible on your location.
Players can no longer be voted into the brig before fully spawning onto the server.
After equipping a weapon from the armoury, aim sensitivity will no longer default to High the first time you aim down the sight.
When switching between items and weapons, players will see fewer instances of default models appearing for a few seconds whilst the correct equipped model loads.
Pricing of the rank 4 and 5 Gold Hoarders compasses are now correct.
It is no longer possible to accidentally select a pirate whilst watching the intro animation.
The icon for the Rotten Bilge Rat Shirt no longer appears low-quality.
Player chat indicator can now be toggled from the front end settings menu and within the game.
Ship lanterns will no longer appear to remain in an upright position, and now follow ship motions.

Known Issues
The option to lock FPS to 90 no longer appears.
Some players travel in an unintended direction when fired from a cannon.

Yep, was thinking about posting this too. The bit where Austin ends up in the water with the Megalodon is a genuinely stomach churning moment. The whole thing is great.

I'm pretty excited about up coming content considering The Hungering Deep was billed as quite small.

If you sail to Shark Bait Cove (which is the island that the Hungering Deep arch is based around) you find that other boats are generally really friendly. Before this update no one was.

The first time I sailed to it, not only did a guy help me find other islands via text but some scottish guy sailed up and said we could loot his boat for supplies cos he had to go offline.

Sea of Thieves' world continues to evolve in the wake of The Hungering Deep. Over the next few months, Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores will deliver new features, declare new challenges and demonstrate new threats. At E3 2018, we ask what details the Order of Souls can sift from the latest omens... Coming summer 2018.
