There are only two troubles with that standpoint.

1. The Falklands are 300 miles away from Argentina and there is no way they can see them from their houses.

2. Sarah Palin can see Russia from her house in Alaska. Don't give that crazy bitch ideas about being able to own things she can see from her house.

She can see Russia yeah, but she thinks its Jamaica.

Why should we try to diplomatically settle their claim? They have no claim.

Any attempt at diplomacy over it would be most strongly resisted by the residents of the Falklands themselves.

Cameron has done exactly the right thing by saying that as long as the residents want to remain British, they will remain British. And that's the end of it.

Indeed. It feels very odd for me to agree so strongly with something DC says, but he's right. It would be a human travesty if we betrayed the Falklanders. We should stand tall on this issue, put pressure on them to retract their claim. We can't let them bully such a small nation like the Falklands, its totally out of order.

I'd certainly like to see them try.

Any Argentinian ship that comes within 12 miles of the coastline would be given one warning to turn around before they're either boarded or fired on.

Who'd want to be owned by a load of diving cheats? No wonder the Falkland Islanders want to stay British. 8-)

Oh dear Laga. :fp:

I don't know what's more distressing; the fact that you've misspelt the word or the fact that you think footballers are overpaid.

Or the fact that you think Messi is a stereotypically thick footballer.

Meh, a typo. Fixed it now.

And all footballers are stereotypically thick. Otherwise they'd have real jobs that actually contributed something to society.

I guess because by refusing to enter into talks it gives validity to the Argentinians claim, and by making them look stupid on a public stage then they won't have any leg to stand on in any future attempts to claim the islands. Having the islanders up in arms would also highlight the fact that they are not interested in becoming part of Argentina.

EDIT: Also we should try and make them pick up as much of the bill as possible as they want the talks.

Surely entering into diplomatic talks would give their claims far more validity than just ignoring them.

The islanders have already made it perfectly clear that they want to remain British and have no interest in becoming part of Argentina, they've been making it clear for decades.
And the Argentinians have already been made to look stupid by saying that the Falkland residents don't have the right to self-determination :fp:

If footballers aren't overpaid then why are Football clubs, one of them one of them 2nd in the SPL, going into administration? Salary caps are the answer. :shifty:

Well if they weren't going into administration, they might have to actually pay some taxes. We can't have that can we?

I'm thinking that people will think that we don't want to enter into claims because we know that Argentina has valid claims. I think if we go in saying right there are islands we doing this to put our ownership beyond any doubt. Argentina is acting like an eight year child and we should show them up.

I don't think you can make a fast reply that's criticising someone else for a fast reply and still claim the high ground :fp:

Back on topic, came across this great quote whilst browsing around,
Over at the Telegraph, Tim Stanley, a professor of United States history at Oxford (he is working on a biography of Pat Buchanan), had come up with a novel riposte: Sean Penn, he said, should give up the keys to his Malibu estate, which, he argued, actually belongs to Mexico. “America’s claim over Malibu is tenuous and rooted in patriarchy,” he wrote, mimicking Penn’s tone. “Sean Penn’s house is a mocking reminder of that brute chauvinism, with its high white walls and spacious interiors. Its swimming pool is an insult to the honor of the Mexican people
