to be honest, the top 5 machines they have there, if i remember back, everyone and their brother had one of those consoles.

i still don't understand though, if its going along the lines of consoles every brit owned how the hell theres no mention of the Speccy or C64 or amiga as every strawberry floater at the turn of the 80's/90's had one. except me, amstrad supermacy 8-)

unless they don't count the home computer, in which case it can be ritten off as a bull gooseberry fool list as no self respecting british list of retro gaming wouldn't have atleast one in the top five.

AND if it was for consoles only, then WTF is the atari 2600 doing so high, i love the atari 2600, but no, its not higher than any of the consoles on that list, the saturn comes higher than it, strawberry float it the turbo grfx comes higher than it and it sold IIRC, 7 units in britain.

And I can confirm I bought 6 of them.

I totally agree the Speccy should be in there - it was an amazing machine. The 48k

Though I did enjoy the 128k (+2!) it was a little less unique.

A FANTASTIC idea, completely strawberry floated by the platform it was rendered on.

Not pictured here: Horrible, D-pad controls and clunky handling.

I've never seen a game more clearly begging for a hi-def remake. Imagine what you could do with modern physics processing for modelling the movement of the fire (and water), analogue controls and a nice, hi-res clean aesthetic?

The only thing is, I wouldn't trust SEGA with it.

People played Tomb Raider as well. They wouldn't today, though.

Oh well, Ims sure its a mess now, but these games were a massive part of my childhood and are probably the reason I love it still today.

Panzer Saga
RE
Tomb Raider
Burning Rangers
NiGHTS
Grandia
Sega Rally
Worldwide Soccer :shifty:

After playing the mega drive these were massive steps forward, and I still remember them fondly.

Those who slate the Saturn were not in the scene and didn't play the massive selection of awesome 2D games that came out of Japan. Radiant Silvergun, Hyper Duel & Street Fighter Zero 3 for starters.

It was the last great 2D home console.

But seriously, the Saturn was a disaster. The Dreamcast knocked spots off it.

How can Game Gear be above Saturn, that is obviously factually incorrect.

Its a British-centric list and reflective of this country's 80's and 90's gaming tastes and ownership.
SEGA were more popular than Nintendo up until 1995 so the MD trumps the SNES in popularity; The Saturn was better than the Game Gear but the thing was dead as soon as the Playstation launched. The GG was more popular and thus achieves a higher position.

Its like some of you have somehow blanked out the 90's. ALL my mates had a MD and hardly anyone had a SNES. I think I knew one person with a Saturn whilst pretty much everyone at school had a Playstation. The N64 made some headway with the rich kids thanks to GoldenEye and to prove some things never change, my PC owning mates would continually boast about the superiority of their Pentium 2, 3DFX setup for Quake 2.

How does that explain the popularity of the Neo Geo in the list?

I think the Neo-Geo is more a case of it being popular because it was so expensive. I've never owned or played on one but I remember it because it was so inaccessible and beyond the means of anyone I know.

I had a NeoGeo CDZ and a Neo Geo, the best games (KOF) were ported to Saturn so I sold them.

Wow. You have a Neo Geo home console system. Those things are worth shitloads.

 @ the CDZ. Loading times on that were horrendous.

Ironically, they didn't need to be. But Neo-Geo games were optimised under the assumption of cartridge loading times allowing massive high detail assets. Early CD ROM technlogy really wasn't able to shunt them about about a reasonable speed so, yeah, most games suffered horrendously.

It brought down the cost of the games, but players paid a high price reguardless.
