I didn't own either. I had a Master System II, but wasn't particularly interested in videogames until the PlayStation turned up.

(Topic will be moved to Retro at a later date)

Super Nintendo without a doubt. Classic console design, one of the first pads that was actually comfortable to hold, great hardware and sound and home to some of the best and most classic games of the 16bit era. Pure class.

i owned both.

mega drive first, 90 till 93, enjoyed the sonics, mercs, sword of vermillion, bubsy, rocket knight, streets of rage series, golden axe, road rash, outrun etc...

then i got a snes in 94, after playing mario kart at a friends, ended up being really good time to own one, had castlevania 4, mario kart, super mario land, super metroid, final fastasy 4, donkey kong trilogy etc...

snes had a much stronger finish imo, but the early 16 bit years were all mega drive for me, it also, imo, had better disney games on the whole, but the SNES, again imo, had better arcade ports (sunset riders, turtles in time, final fight).

if this is another choose thread then go strawberry float your self, i ain't choosing.

Ah, the classic. Both were before my time as a gamer (I was an N64 boy), however, so I'm sitting out.

why only these two btw?

i want to make a fruitless, yet spirited arguement for the CDI and 3DO.

I had a Megadrive, my brother had a SNES. Both seemed great at the time, but Nintendo games are clearly better. Mario World and Zelda Link To The Past are in my top 5 games of all time. So many SNES games have stood the test of time.

on the whole SNES did have better fighting games imo, (all the streetfighters are better, primal rage, mortal kombat, may have lacked the blood, but runs alot smoother) its the extra buttons as standard making the big difference, ever tried street fighter 2 on the mega drive, where you press start to change a,b,c from kicks to punchs, its strawberry float.

i'd say the megadrive had alot more better driving games than the snes tho

Mega Drive is what I used to own and it gave me and my mate the biggest laughs of our young gaming career. Toejam & Earl playing a huge role in that

But seriously they both had such awesome back catalogues, good times

Mega Drive for me. My parents bought me and my brother a Mega Drive II one Christmas with Sonic 2 and Donald Ducks Quack Shot. We were expecting to get a Master System II as that's what we had asked for. It's also what we would have ended up as that's what they bought to start with but when they tried it when they got home it wasn't working. They took it back to the shop and got the Mega Drive instead. :)

Amateur, that's why you invest in a six button pad. It's Mega Drive all the way for me, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Road Rage, Aladdin, Ecco the Dolphin, SFII, Mortal Kombat, Lion King, SONIC, Another World... Flashback was by far the best game though.

Of course the Snes had some amazing games that still hold up to this day, but I never owned one so nostalgia wins out for me.

Snes, no contest.

Friggin' loved that machine, even though I got one really late into its life (mid 96)

I owned both eventually, but it was Mega Drive for most of that generation.

Got the Mega Drive not long after getting my first proper job. Sonic bundled in. Ordered it from a mail order catalogue, so I could pay in instalments. Those were the days.

I picked up a SNES the week DKC was released. In a ridiculous offer at Currys (assisted by clueless staff), I got a SNES, Mario Allstars and DKC for £99. DKC wasn't supposed to be part of the bundle, but I got them to price match Argos, who were throwing in "a free game". I kept quiet about the fact it was some rubbish old game.
