My brother was Mega Drive owner, but in truth both of us would have more enjoyment out of SNES. Having said that though, both are still amazing machines, there's reason to own both - more so than PS3 vs 360 - due to so many different games on each platform.

I can't really deicde which is better, thing about consoles back then is that they were completely different. It is like today where you can by a PS3 and find the games be no different to 360 games, sure there are some exclusives but it is the big multiplatform games that people care about now.

I preferred the Mega Drive. I had a MD II. It had a... Blue power button I believe as I lived in an NTSC region.

Brother had a SNES which was great but I just strawberry floating loved Sonic (and Knuckles) as a kid. Even Sonic Spinball.

Street Fighter II TUrbo

on the whole SNES did have better fighting games imo, (all the streetfighters are better, primal rage, mortal kombat, may have lacked the blood, but runs alot smoother) its the extra buttons as standard making the big difference, ever tried street fighter 2 on the mega drive, where you press start to change a,b,c from kicks to punchs, its strawberry float.

i'd say the megadrive had alot more better driving games than the snes tho

Amateur, that's why you invest in a six button pad.

why? when i've got a 6 button SNES pad as standard. sega dropped the ball on that one, infact megadrive pads are shite, i have 2 SNES pads, that i've had since day 1, i must have atleast 15 megadrive pads as they are made of keek, and regardless of how much you clean them, or take them apart and replace bits they will burn out, the only reliable sega pad for the mega drive i have is the strawberry floating huge arcade stick, which is great for mortal kombat, but guff for chuck rock.

look at all dem shitty Mega drive pads.

Got Snes first. Had both eventually. Loved them both. SNES just that little bit more. Ninty fanboy innit.

Mega Drive. My first ever console.

My father brought one home from London for me and my brother in the early nineties, with Sonic and MegaGames 3 in 1 - Vol 1: Includes Columns, Super Hang-On and World Cup Italia '90.

They were all good, but Columns and the footy game where the most popular. My mum was unassailable on Columns. :o

My favourite game is a tie: World/Castle of Illusion. I especially liked the co-op element in World, and how it meant there were three paths through the game depending on whether you chose Donald, Mickey, or were playing with a friend. :D

However, I think it does speak for the quality of Sega's games that this was my first, and only, Sega console. The next generation I bought an N64 and have been a Nintendo fan ever since. Sega never managed to grab me in the same way.

Both. I can't decide which is best.

Demon's Crest
Skyblazer
Donkey Kong Country 2

vs

Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Dynamite Headdy
Toejam & Earl 2

And that's just some of my favourite platformers...

Had a Mega Drive model 2 but always wanted a SNES to go along with it. Never got one until finding one in a second hand store in 2002 :P

Currently have a Mega Drive model 1 and SNES, both modded for 60Hz and imports. Love them to bits  SNES probably wins out slightly, but they both complement each other well.

The SNES had some amazing games on it, no doubt about that or which of the two was the overall superior console. But... for the most part of their lifespans I only owned one of the two, and that's one I'm going with.

As a kid I could only have one so upgraded from a NES to a MegaDrive purely because of Sonic 2.

Didn't have either, but looking back SNES would have been the one for me.

SNES for me, my most played, most loved console. Still got two hooked upto the TV sitting infront of me here. I was gutted when FIFA '95 (the greatest football game of the SNES / MD Generation imo) didn't come to the SNES.

It really isn't about who owned what - the SNES clearly had the superior lineup, and that's coming from somebody who owned both! The Megadrive started off with all the momentum, but probably peeked with Sonic 2. It was at an early stage removed from under my TV, as all we ever played was SNES. Even before DKC removed all thought of Sonic (which admittedly happened quite late in the day), the likes of Mario Kart and StarFox were leagues ahead of anything anywhere else. Amiga/ ST? Who're they?!

And then SF Alpha 2 and Mortal Kombat 3, which really shouldn't have been possible on 16bit hardware, meant that the snes kept going well into the following generation (ever tried a CD version of Mortal Kombat 3? DON'T.)

In the grand scheme of things I'd give it to the SNES, but both are worthy machines.

Didn't the Mega Drive sell better than the SNES as it had Mortal Kombat with blood? Also MK3 came out on the Mega Drive?
