Never owned them personally, but going by the games quite clearly the winner is the SNES.

Seemed like everyone at my school had a Mega Drive. Being the coolest because you knew the level select cheat for Sonic. 8-)

SNES by the greatest margin imaginable.

Nah, just kidding, I'm sure the Megadrive was nice for all you poor sods that didn't have a SNES.

in primary school i remember every friday afternoon we got the drama room to strawberry float about in, which usually meant someone bringing in a megadrive and we all played knockout games of italia 90, road rash and mortal kombat, or occationally streetfighter 2 on someones SNES... this all changed when a good friend of mine brought the SNES with 4 player adapter and mario kart (spoilt little strawberry floater), which in turn changed again when mirco machines turbo 96 came along on the megadrive, but that was the last year of primary school and never had the same appeal as the old mario kart, people were starting to get into playstations and the such.

but to be honest, i do remember alot more people having megadrives, part of the reason i originally got one, it was out first IIRC, so everyone jumped on board with the "blast graphx!!!1!" bullshit, still stand by it tho, megadrive was/is an awesome machine, but after about 92/93 the super nintendo raped it with superior games.

There was no 4 player option on Mario Kart. What did the other players do? Pretend to be playing?

Yes?

Indeed. Bomberman on the SNES was ace though.

I had both, truth be told, the majority of the time multi-platform games were definitely better on the SNES most of the times. Although there are some exceptions. However, I was a bit of a Sega fanboy so it was the Megadrive for me.

Yes, that was great. Can you remember Bomberman 2 or 3? I seem to remember that one of those didn't have a 4 player option.

What about Super Street Racer? (Super may or may not have been in the title). That was a kind of MK/SF rip off, think that had a 4 player option.

Yes?

i had street racer on the mega drive, the red barron dude was awesome.

the battle mode was nuts, driving in a wall of death thing IIRC, trying to beat the gooseberry fool outta people until they fell off...

Ha, that reminds me how a lot of people seemed to think the console was called a "Sega". I remember even arguing with kids at school about it!
