The MegaDrive had a constant stream of good games while SNES owners had to wait months on end for a good title to come along. Overall SNES had more AAA titles though.

don't really know if this is true or not, as it all happened when i was between 6 and 11, so i only got games at xmas or Bday, or with weekend swaps with mates in school, and occationally trading in for second hand jobs.

BTW, did the mega drive ever have any starwars games, i've got the trilogy of starwars on the snes, but don't remember any on the MD.

SNES wins this hands down. Home to some of the best games of all time, whereas I'm struggling to think of anything on the Mega Drive that comes close to that.

Dunno about SW games in general but I'm pretty certain it didn't have the SNES ones.

yeah, the snes ones were exclusive, along with the indiana jones jobby lucas arts did, all four are lush, and burtally hard.

surely there is tho, it would be one of the few consoles i know of that had no lucas sauce poured all over it atleast once, there must be one star wars game... to google.

Looking back the SNES had a much better line up and I'd have loved to have owned one, but I had to vote Mega Drive for nostalgic reasons. My first ever console and I have so many fond memories of it.

Looking at the PAL console designs, I think the SNES has aged much better than the Mega Drive.

As much as I LOVE my Streets of Rage 2, Thunderforce 4, and Sonic 1 (and I do), the SNES easily wins hands down for me. SO many fond memories of just so many good games.

Super Metroid and A Link to the Past anyone?

It wasn't really a ball-drop. It was SEGA designing their console to match arcade standards. Basic JAMMA cabinets only support three buttons (and a start button), and the Megadrive would have been designed years in advance of the extended JAMMA standards that would have included more buttons.

Wasn't 3 buttons when the MegaDrive launched a new record?

Well if you disregard the controllers with numbered keypads then yeah I guess. Actually I'm sure the PC engine controller had shoulder buttons, don't take my word for it I'm not 100% sure.

Doesn't appear to have shoulder buttons

I got confused with the six button pad, it looks a bit like the sega saturn controller.

I dunno, 1990. A lot of people claim the best PC Engine games were all on CD. I'll take their word for it because I found their hucard libary to be mostly dull generic crap.

Only had a SNES as I was sensible in those days and only bought one console. Before getting a SNES I had just an ST and a friend of mine bought an imported MD. He brought it over from time to time and although I enjoyed the games, I didn't feel it was worth the investment given the cost of the games (compared to free on the ST 8-) /  ).

Then one Christmas another friend of mine got a SNES and offered to bring it round and as he didn't have or hadn't seen a MD I arranged for my other friend to come over too. So the stage was set for the console smack down.

First up was the MD with the 17 games my friend had. After that was the turn of the SNES with the mere 3 games my friend had for it (Mario, Zelda and some scrolling plane shoot-em-up). My friend with the MD didn't say much, but when I took him home after my SNES friend had left I asked him what he thought of the SNES and he said he thought it made the MD look a bit crap but didn't want to say anything. The following week he bought a SNES and sold his MD games to his colleagues at work.

True story etc.
