I believe that's what they call "CheckMate".

An amazing cooperative 2 player experience. Probably my most often returned to game on the SNES (and now virtual console). Play it with my wife who, despite being pretty damn good at games, is terrrrible at this. I always end up the first to be fully dead though thanks to the steal-the-other-players-lives-when-you-die system. She'll go through13 lives, I'll die once and then have to watch through my facepalm as she wanders blindly into the slow-moving bullet that has travelled the whole screen towards her.

I next want to mention Cybernator.

Personally, I've always preferred the cleanness of probotectors "you hit, you dead" system vs the slight wooliness of Gunstar's health bar, though I think it's largely a matter of taste.

For me this is one of the most one-sided console battles. Most of the stuff on the Mega Drive I enjoyed came out on the SNES too like Mortal Kombat II, Desert Strike and the Lion King but the list of quality exclusives for the SNES goes on and on. Aside from the obvious I spent so much time playing Sim City, Top Gear, (the awesome) Batman Returns, Unirally, ISS Deluxe, T2: The Arcade Game, the much better Bomberman games and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

The SNES had such great longevity too, after Sonic & Knuckles the Mega Drive didn't have much but I remember when Killer Instinct came out how Games Master raved about it beating the first polygon fighters on the Saturn and PlayStation. What a game! Blew my mind at the time.

The SNES didn't really have an answer for the glorious Streets of Rage 2 though and I loved stuff like the Lotus Challenge game and that Domark F1 game in the yellow box was MEGA!

Tried finding the name using google and wikipedia, but not luck. I remember this looking fantastic, but I never had a proper go at it. :(

Wasn't one of the Magical Quest games was it?

Snes. And I was a hardcore megadrive kid.

I was clearly insane.

Wasn't really an answer. More like a poor man's equivalent.

i always found disney games to be better on the megadrive, or atleast i enjoyed them more.

i'm currently looking for the following...

The lion King
Castle of Illusion
Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse (SNES)
Fantasia
World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
Mickey Mania

i have castle of Illusion on the game gear, rock hard imo, and i have a donald duck game where you walk along beating things with a mallot, but i dunno what its called. i do have aladdin on the MD, its just lush

BTW, epic mickey is it decent...

The Donald Duck with the mallet is The Lucky Dime Caper, also available for the MS.

It was glitchy as hell though during the later levels which results in sudden death out of nowhere.

I got a copy of Lucky Dime Caper earlier this year (finally started collecting Master System games :mrgreen:), the controls are a bit weird but you can get used to them with time. I really enjoyed it (I have a soft spot for old school disney platformers!), but I can attest to the bugginess in the later levels; Donald got stuck in a dying animation and I had to reset the game ;_;

I was really impressed by the Illusion games on the Master System too, Castle of Illusion actually stand ups well against the Mega Drive version (a very, very nostalgic game for me), and World of Illusion has some really cool adventure elements and a fair bit of ambition for an 8-bit title.
