You’ve spoken; we’ve listened. In support of offering gamers the freedom of choice, we’re making changes to the Microsoft Store purchase experience by offering customers a simple way to instantly return digital products like games and apps through account.microsoft.com.

When a game or app leaves you wanting more, we're here to help. Self-service refunds on Xbox One and Windows 10 provide a quick, simple way of returning a digital product.

To request a self-service refund:
1. Navigate to account.microsoft.com and sign-in.
2. From the top menu bar, select Payment & billing > Order history.
3. Navigate to a purchased game or app, and select Request a refund.

Please note the below conditions for requesting a self-service refund:
• Games and apps are eligible for self-service refunds within 14 days of purchase if you have less than 2 hours of play time across all accounts.
• DLC, season passes, and add-ons are not eligible for self-service refunds.
• The game or app must be downloaded and launched before requesting a self-service refund.
• You must wait for at least 1 day after the game or app's release before requesting a self-service refund.
• Certain Windows 10 apps may not be eligible for self-service refunds.
• Microsoft reserves the right to block access for users who abuse self-service refunds.

Great to see this come to console :)

Brilliant!

It's takes the worry out of making a costly punt on a new game. Two hours is a reasonable amount of time to get a sense if you like a game or not and not too generous to buyers for Microsoft & publishers to be exploited.

Isn't this just what Steam does?

It's actually better than Steam's version because it's an automated refund, as opposed to having to wait for someone at Valve to look over your request and decide whether they're going to give it you or not.

MS indeed killing it as of late.

Even if it is "only" what Steam does, it's a great precedent to set on consoles and hopefully causes Sony and Nintendo to react.

Well, yeah. But they still have show they're listening and this is yet another move on their part which shows they're doing just that.
I haven't used XBL in ages so will take your word for it regarding that, but digital refunds, for me, is a huge plus to have.

I assume he means the Windows store, which is a little bit crap to be fair. Xbox store is fine.

But some indie games can be completed in 2 hours. Journey can be finished in an hour and a half for example.

I feel like an hour would be more appropriate.

Why understate this so hard? It's a complete flaming wreckage.

Time played should have absolutely nothing to do with refund systems. You buy a game to have it forever, not just until the credits roll. If you decide within 2 weeks that you don't want it anymore, you should be able to change your mind, regardless of how far you got.

That's a stupid mentality to have. Plenty of people complete games and then trade them in immediately.

Sometimes so they can rebuy them when the price goes down, sometimes because they will never play them again.

There's a reason GAME or HMV wont refund an opened product unless there is a fault with it.

I think this is something they've always done but I guess it's good that it's automated now and you don't need to talk to a CSR online
