Episode 5 is out now -

Episode 5 - Route Talk (43 mins), 23rd October
Adnan once issued a challenge to Sarah. He told her to test the state’s timeline of the murder by driving from Woodlawn High School to Best Buy in 21 minutes. It can’t be done, he said. So Sarah and Dana take up the challenge, and raise him one: They try to recreate the entire route that Jay said he and Adnan took on January 13th, 1999.

Episode 6 - The Case Against Adnan Syed, 30th October

Thanks for the recommend. Really enjoying this.

Only 2 episodes in so reserving judgement on my prime suspect just yet.

Episode 5

It was clear from the start that either Jay or Adnan were lying, but now it seems both are. The more that the show avoids talking about Hae Min's new boyfriend, the more suspicious he becomes. I wouldn't be surprised if he had committed a similar murder before or since.

Prime suspect for me currently is Jay. Like you said, it does seem that both are lying, but Jay just seems hugely suspicious to me.

I've spent most of the time listening to this thinking Adnan probably wasn't guilty because there were just too many inconsistencies and problems with Jay's story. After Episode 5 I'm just not so sure any more. The key thing for me is the call made from Adnan's phone from, it would appear, Lincoln park. Why would he lie about not being there?

At this point I honestly have no idea what went down that day. I'm mildly concerned that we never will.

Both of them are lying about what happened that afternoon before track. There is still lots more to come but I don't think we'll ever find that out.

It probably was Adnan with a bit of help.

Yeah, I suspect Jay had more to do with it than he's letting on. Adnan can't say anything without admitting guilt.

I imagine Adnan and Jay talking about killing her for weeks before, and Jay probably egged him on. Jay was either up for helping, or Adnan had a lot more dirt on him than just dealing pot.

I just remembered something. In earlier episodes wasn't the host trying to imply that Jay and Adnan weren't very close and hardly spoke? And yet in ep 5
The guy from track practise said it was pretty common for Jay to drop off Adnan. They must have been reasonably close then surely?

The bit I'm struggling with right now is two things. Jay is incredibly suspicious. I don't really understand why he's not doing or done time as an accessory to murder. He's practically admitted he was part of this, from wiping prints of his own shovels used to bury the body to discarding the clothes he wore when doing this.

And slightly more loosely, I'm yet to see a clear motive for this murder. The only credible one is indeed, the scorned boyfriend takes revenge on his ex. Though as the podcasts suggest there's little to no material evidence that he felt this wronged.

But what other evidence is there, at least so far, that this girl should be murdered by either of these two?

There's a new basic timeline on the website with a more detailed one coming later this week - http://serialpodcast.org/maps/who-what-when

It mentions the 1st part of what happens to Jay but I assume there's a lot more to come about him so haven't investigated further -

Sep 7 - Jay signs an agreement pleading guilty to accessory after the fact of the first degree murder of Hae Min Lee.

Proper spoilers in this thread, please guys. Even speculation about what might have happened counts - I only came in here to post my gratitude for drawing it to my attention, and read something I didn't want to.

I'm half-way through episode 2 and I love it. First thing of this kind that I've ever listened to, and I'm already dreading it ending.

Anyway, thanks, Monkey Man, for this. It's totally gripping.

I think the spoilers for this are only things that haven't yet been in the episodes. Discussing the episodes themselves doesn't really need spoilering. If you're not up to date then stay away from the thread till you are.

Eh? No, surely spoilers are anything that reveal developments in the 'plot' before some people have had a chance to catch up.

Most the other threads on this forum obey this rule - Walking Dead, for example - or clearly mark in the thread title to denote the pace of discussion.

Matter of opinion, I guess - but I explained why I was coming in the thread. Never mind, I'll avoid from now on.

So the rule for every thread with games or shows should be Don't enter until you are up to date/finished?
