I'll wait for the actual, confirmed reports. What's the point in speculating right now?

BBC reporter Holly Jones, who was on the bridge at the time of the incident, said the van was driven by a man and was "probably travelling at about 50 miles an hour".

About five people were being treated for injuries after the vehicle mounted the pavement and hit them, she said.

She said the van, which was travelling from the direction of central London, headed towards the south side of the river.

Ms Jones later reported seeing a man being arrested by police. She said he was handcuffed and had his shirt off.

The BBC's Holly Jones spoke to a French woman who had been injured in the incident.

She told Ms Jones: "I don't know where those other two people are. So the police are checking the Thames.

"They were right near the edge of the bridge. It looks potentially they could have been thrown over."

Sounds awful. As usual though better to wait for confirmed reports of what's happened, not wild speculation.

This.

If people are going to post "reports of x, y, z," can you please at least name a source, if not provide a link.

This is awful enough as it is. We don't need speculation.

I was supposed to be going to London for a work night out next Saturday. Me thinks I shall be missing that one.

The only way you can stop an attack like this is to preempt it. I think we're on the verge of seeing encryption on things like iMessage scrapped to be honest.

You can throw as many armed personnel onto the streets till you're blue in the face, bollard as much as you want, but the only way you can stop this is in the planning stages. These things are rarely a lone nutter. It's a network.

Went last year and will happily go again. Don't let these assholes change how you live. The odds of falling victim to these gooseberry fools is less than dying in a car crash while heading to work every morning.

Serious question, you're Muslim right? (Sorry if I'm thinking of someone else) But don't you get frustrated that everyone assumes this is 'terrorism' (whatever that means these days) perpetrated by Muslims? Everyone being so quick to judge and label as terrorism by Muslims frustrates me to say the least.

ps…I'm not Muslim.

You've confused me with Silva_Shadow, I'm not religious.

More from BBC:
'Run as fast as you can' - police advice to public
Posted at 23:21

Police are reported to be treating injured people and carrying them away at the end Thrale Street, near London Bridge.

Members of the public were told by police to "run as fast as they could" westbound.

Nick Archer, who was in the London Bridge area, told Sky News: "We came out (of a bar) on to the road and looked and looked to my left and there is a guy, I thought he was just drinking but he was lying on the floor.

"And then a couple of seconds later, about three police vans flew past. "He looked in a bad way."

Reports of gunfire at the scene
Posted at 23:21

Eyewitness Samantha Wilde tells the BBC she's seen between 30 and 40 ambulances at the scene and armed police.

Earlier, there were reports of gunfire.

Knife 'possibly involved'
Posted at 23:23

British Transport Police have said there are a number of casualties due to the incident possibly involving a vehicle and a knife in London Bridge.

Encryption being scrapped isn't going to stop this.

You can remove as many civil liberties as you want and create a police state if you want, but people are still going to do things like this.

It's very unlikely these will be planned online, most of them are planned face to face.
