Also it mentions treasure chest, which I'm guessing is going to be like overwatch and it's loot boxes.

Warner Brothers being Warner Brothers. Wonder if they learned from last times sponsored reviews on YouTube. Bizzare practice really as they game was magnificent and didn't need any cheap tricks to get positive word of mouth.

Yup.

I'm out, at least for a year or so until its dirt cheap/with all the dlc for a tenner or so - they can go on about 'player choice' and all that gooseberry fool but the game will be grindy as strawberry float to make spending more real money as tempting as possible.

I'm slowly becoming less and less bothered about games on console needing an active connection.
My console is only ever used at my house or now and then at my nans but both have net access so it's not an issue.
I can understand with handhelds but home consoles is less of an issue I feel.

Unless there's a discernible benefit to it, like in Dark Souls, it's just another barrier that treats paying customers like criminals. It's almost certainly there to mitigate hacks and mods that circumvent the loot system which in itself killed almost all interest that I had in this game. While my PC and consoles are almost always online, there are times when they aren't but I can continue playing single player games.

One of the main reasons for giving up on Just Cause 3 on PS4 was its connection to the servers for challenge leaderboards dropping every 10 minutes, whereupon it pauses the game and gives you the offer to go in offline mode. Then whenever you open the map it tries to re-connect, often without success. After this happened 3 times I called time and dumped it, thankfully it was free with PS+. It's not always about how good your internet is, if their servers are shitty on the other end then you have absolutely no recourse.

I'm starting to lose interest in the game. Which is a massive shame as I loved the first game. I'll probably wait until I can get it all for a good price rather than drop 90 quid when it's released the same month as Mario.

I'm not completely convinced that the loot creates will be the only annoying thing about this game when it launches but there's a chance that the single player campaign will be playable offline. Nonetheless, this is still a strong contender for 'wait until the Super Compete Turbo edition has a deep discount'.

Yeah, I can't quite get my head around the fact that this is £90 (season pass edition) on the Store. Will definitely be waiting for a big price cut on this.

Interesting comment from a "new account" on Eurogamer. Reminds me of Driv3rgate somewhat...

Middle-earth: Shadow of War has loot boxes
Posted by Temujen1975

"Honestly, I don't have so much time to play video games anymore, so I welcome the ability to get shortcuts for money. As long as nothing is locked behind a paywall, nobody should complain about this in a single-player game. The way it was used in Assassin's Creed for example - where you could buy resources instead of grinding for them - is a good way to help people who have a full time job and a family and who want to complete the game in a reasonable time. And it looks like it'll be the same here."

I'll get it on Boomerang and throw a tenner or so into the boosts. Time is quite literally money I guess.

So my interest in this has gone from "Probably get it on/near launch" to "I'll wait for the inevitable GOTY version with all the DLC, fixed bugs and other shite, in a sale".

Fed up with full-price games having this "Idiot tax" shoehorned into it. I can just about deal with it in Online MP games, especially f2p ones, but this can do one. So sick to death with "Gear" and "loot" systems.

Always online as well... Oh dear.

strawberry float off WB.

I always love the response to this kind of thing

"we wanted to help people who don't have much time to grind"

as if they're doing us all a favour by giving us the option to throw money at it, instead of looking at the game mechanics and changing them so grinding isn't necessary

Once again the nemesis system is going to be the standout star of the game, but for me it isn't so good as to warrant day one play. And that's how I felt before loot boxes announcement and Shelob reveal.

I'm just glad that WB didn't give enough of a strawberry float about Mad Max to put all this fee-to-pay gooseberry fool in it.

If Mad Max ever gets a sequel then WB will do their usual nonsense.

The end of year PlayStation Sale is always brilliant for catching up on the years biggest releases at worth while prices so I'll stick up there rather than throw away £90 which isn't far off the price of a new handheld console!
