Now they're past the first quarter earnings and the investors have all their money back and presumably the whales have moved on, its an easy PR move that looks good in headlines. I don't believe for a second they had a sudden revelation about lootboxes undermining the game.

Trelliz, give it a rest man.

I got this half price from CD keys months ago but only played a few hours. It's just not nearly as much fun as AC Origins. Also, I can't remember seeing anything to buy, can't say I looked for them but they aren't intrusive as far as I could tell. Despite being free, Fortnite's in your face purchase options are really annoying.

I'll come back to playing this so I'll get to see most of the game improvements.

Exactly. I was thinking just yesterday how much this game had sunk like a stone from the collective consciousness, at least compared to the first. As you say, this move reeks of PR.

It IS PR, but its something good. I presume they want to make a third game so have changed this so people will know next one won't have the same guff.

Bollocks. Absolute lies. There was no revelation. This wasn't a light-bulb moment. This has been said to them constantly and repeatedly since it was announced. They've gotten their money out of the early adopters and figure they can at least wring out some sales from those who have been avoiding it.

If anything I can see it putting people off their next one. Why buy it day one with all the bullshit included, when you can wait 5-6 months and they'll rip it all out so you can play without being pressured into spending more cash?

It's too little too late for this game now anyway. The window to get me to buy it was at launch last year, now I've got too much else that I'm playing to go back to it.

Me too - if I do buy it it will be either on console second hand so WB get no money from me at all or wait until the GOTY edition is £3 on cdkeys.com like the first game is. Given how much they were banging on about them being "optional" and about "player choice" pre-launch to suddenly turn and say how bad they are just comes across as having no integrity at all and makes me trust them even less in the future.

It's quite obvious when it comes to this and Battlefront 2 that higher up execs forced the devs to crowbar in the loot box malarky. It's glaringly obvious given that both games are sequels. SoM and BF1 didn't even hint at the stuff in the sequels.

I still haven't finished the first one.

Great news shame it's 6 months too late, and it's certainly a smack in the face for folks who actually forked out for these microtransactions. The BF2 situation was bad but the microtransactions never actually went online though, these have and folks have paid money for nothing.

Already Plat the game so I'm well over it, maybe if there's enough changes to the game I may go back, but I've had my fill of this disappointment hope if they make a third one, they learn from their mistakes.

So..... New patch out for this. The last big patch and it has apparently fixed the game. No more loot boxes, grind reduced etc....

I've been reading the news about this update and watched a few vids. I was one of those folk who didn't buy the game because of those additional payment systems and I was critical of their inclusion. But... now that they have been removed and the game is available at a discount, I have taken another look. I have some PS Store credit burning a hole in my pocket so I might pick this up.

To be honest - they didn't effect the game at all.
I couldn't even tell you what they did.

If you don't mind a physical copy I got it on Xbone Friday gone for £10 from Tesco, pretty sure it's the same price on PS4.

Hey, Kj, thanks for the heads-up. I find that Tesco deals tend to be pretty localised (the one near me is lousy for games!) and I had some PSN credit so I went down that route. Thanks anyway, though :-).

So picked this up cheap.

It’s a little overwelming at the start. You have most of abilities from last game, get new abilities every mission, unlock mission types, collectibles, maps again and again, hop round maps etc

Really feels like it needs to chill a bit

I really loved this game, but I played it shortly after going through the first one.

If only you'd posted a bit later it would have been even closer to exactly two years since the last post in this thread.

Was going through my ps+ list the other day and found this. Loved the first game so I'm giving this a go.

As said above, it's pretty full on at the start with collectible and skills overload, but I'm starting to get in to it now.

Why is shelob a sexy woman in this
