Watching Holly from Playstation Access currently do a live playthrough of the first 5. Looks absolutely stunning although she’s never played it before so can be a frustrating watch

Bit more excited for my fourth playthrough

PLAY | Final Fantasy VII Rebirth [92h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S2, HiJack S1, The Apprentice S18
RACE | Westonbirt Half (March), Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

Looks like a good job, but I've still got the PS3 HD Ico/SotC collection unplayed so will give this version of SotC a miss.

Snap! The new version looks lovely and I'd be really keen to play around with the photo mode but, in my new cost-conscious approach to gaming, I'll be holding off from this.

It looks epic!

The last time I played was on PlayStation 2 at 2006, so I think I will buy this.

Digital Foundry has released their full analysis. The game looks astounding... it's gonna be hard to resist this.

You can’t sidestep this version and play a clearly inferior one instead. That doesn’t make sense.

Yes I can, and I will. Playing "the best version" of any given video game isn't something I'm concerned about.

The only thing stopping me is that I'm "cutting back" on video game buying. The quality of this re-make is making me wonder if I'll have to make an exception in this case, though.

Given how vast the improvements are, the remake is the definitive version. It’s basic common sense. The original hasn’t exactly aged like fine wine, from a technical standpoint, nor has the remaster.

Couldn't you just trade in a bunch of stuff that you're never going to play?

Bit premature to claim this isn't it? Game design is as much an art as it is a technical achievement - and that goes double for a game commonly held up as an example of "videogames as art". The remake might appear an improvement on all paper, but I'm still waiting to play it to see if it retains the same soul.

The technical advancements found in the remake are something you're interested in though, whereas I'm indifferent about it. In fact the only reason I have a copy of the HD version is that, along with a handful of other titles, it came with the PS3 and as such has been sat there unplayed for quite some time. If I ever feel the need to revisit SotC then I have copy. I see no reason to upgrade to the remake to achieve this, regardless of the technical improvements. It's the same reason I haven't bought a single remaster this generation, I'm just not that fussed.

*edit* That's not to say I don't appreciate the the technical improvements on display in this remake, and at one time I did consider buying it, but on reflection it's not something I really want and, as I said above, if I wish to revisit SotC at any time then I have a version. Might not be the best version, but at its core it's still the same game.

Y’all crazy. A classic that’s gonna look better, run better, sound better...just seems the most logical choice, to me, even if you already own a version.

That's not a bad idea, Hime. I probably won't though because I kinda begrudge the pittance that GAME / CEX offers for games and, on PS4, I've been a digital downloader for a few years now. Will have a think about whether I really want this now or to wait for a price cut.

Play your backlog and buy this when you are ready to play it.

I think you're right, Deaths. I'm tempted because the game looks wonderful but there is no rush to buy at launch, really - might as well wait... I think.

I know I'm not helping you here, Jawa, but Digital Foundry are quite impressed... :slol:
