‘Shadow of the Colossus’ remastered for PS4 debuts at No1 pushing ‘Monster Hunter: World’ down to No3. The original PS2 title also debuted at No1, back in W7 2006, however launch week sales of the new PS4 version are 73% greater than that of its predecessor. It is the 8th different Sony-format exclusive to reach No1 so far this year.

Played about an hour of the original on a PS2 emulator, jumped on this as it's the other half's favourite. We spent the first 10 minutes just marveling at how amazing it looks before taking down the first 3 collossi and just being amazed at the scale of it all.

Bloody amazing so far

14 Colossi down, 2 to go, some of the last few have been quite frustrating.

It’s been good but I don’t see what all the fuss is about really. Maybe back in 2005 it was something spectacular.

Did the 4th Colossus (the flying one) last night and it was one of the most thrilling set pieces I've ever encountered. Again, I never played the original.

Some of them were definitely really well done, I found some to be quite fiddly in trying to get the colossi to do what you needed it to do.

Just finished it today, and I would say I enjoyed it overall. I think something like the way you take down the colossi would be a nice addition to the next Zelda. Kinda how you can already bump into random huge enemies in BotW but have them more fleshed out with a puzzle element to taking them down

Brerlappin wrote:Its absolutely not a game for everyone. Some people need constant engagement and side content and stuff, and thats fine. Im not shitting on people who prefer Skyrim experiences to SOTC. But thats exactly why i think SOTC stands out, because in a way its almost an anti-game. It has hardly any of the trappings of a modern game (naturally, given its age), and thats honestly refreshing as hell to me in 2018. Part of the charm of SOTC is this beautiful, barren, haunting land that is inhabited by pretty much just you and the Colossi. The world itself is very anti-game in that its probably one of the most realistic looking environments ive ever seen in a game, not because of the graphics tho, but because theres no obvious signs of gamification, no waist high cover, no obvious "SECRET AREA OVER HERE" areas, no NPC hubs, those kinda things. And that just makes it feel all the more natural and realistic as an environment. Its an absolute joy to just traverse the land on your horse, with nothing but the sound of the wind and Agros hooves to accompany you. Again, not for everyone, but i will love this game til the day i die. Ueda is an absolute master IMO.

I must admit it was surprising that it was literally beat all colossi one after another with no filler content to pad out sections in between. In that regard it felt like a Boss Rush with puzzle elements.

In regards to exploration, I didn’t feel the need to explore anywhere as there were no secrets to discover (other than collectibles but they don’t interest me)

All in all i’m glad I finally got round to playing it, I might not see it the same way as some of you do but I still enjoyed what I played.

This is looking like it could be a great re-make.

Watching this video, you can really see just how bad the framerate was on the PS2 version.

Did everything get yellower in the PS4 game or is that just the comparison vid?

It's like they Human Revolution'd it

I got to watch a friend play this earlier, and it seemed pretty cool. Definitely a good remake.

Um, does the game allow you to save out in the world? I manually saved on the stone ramp leading to the third colossi, but then when I reloaded the game it just plonked me back at the starting shrine.

If you manually save like that then don't select "continue" on the main menu, go to load and select your saved game. Its a bit stupid

Hmm. Weird. I did that and it still loaded in the shrine. Should it work the way you say even on hard setting?

Oh and by manual save I mean via the pause menu, not saving at a shrine. (Not seen one out in the wild, yet.)

This game apparently takes place at the crossroads of Stunning and Utterly strawberry floating Infuriating.

The 11th Colossus was an absolute strawberry floater that wasn't the least bit fun to fight. Had to resort to a guide, which clued me in on a move the game had never mentioned previously*, that was needed to beat him. Urgh.

Still loving it but strawberry float.

*Jump attack

This is the dog one right?

After his armour comes off and you've ridden him back to the room with the torches, his weak point was still invulnerable to normal sword attacks for me. I had to jump from the brazier after he stunned himself and hit him with the jump attack
