What was the other game of the year contender?

I have just pre-ordered Shadow - will be my first PS4 game since Uncharted 4 :toot:

Monster Hunter World is my guess.

Ah, I forgot about that one.

Shadow does look amazing, but my one concern was Eurogamer describing it as a boss run...

That's the core concept of the game

They are more like puzzles than traditional game bosses, if you're worried about getting frustrated by dying repeatedly to multiple stages. That probably won't happen.

Thanks. I hate the boss runs in the Mario 3D games, but this sounds quite different.

I love the original for its atmosphere, mystery and grandeur.

But I always felt the Colossi were just a little too easy. I realise it's not the point, but the music would blare these outrageously epic, desperate tunes whilst as a player you could quite calmly amble around or take your time replenishing your stamina gauge etc. The sense of peril engendered by the visual scale and the music wasn't really backed up by a second-by-second sense of peril in the actual gameplay. I never really thought 'phew!' after beating them.

(by phew I mean instinctively sticking my middle finger up at the screen and saying f*ck you - which is usually my reflex when a game segment has been tense)

As a world and a mood to bathe in though, it's fantastic. Tempted by this remake.

This has made me a wee bit keener, doc! A grand epic in which one can wander about sounds right up my street!

That actually makes me more likely to try this out. I've always liked the look of Team Ico games but they've always seemed a bit clunky. If I can just enjoy the visuals and music while I contort my hand into a claw I'm much more likely to give it a go.

Looks sweet AF. I like SOTC, I finished it on my PS2 all those years ago, I do think ICO is the better game though but great to have the trilogy on PS4.

You could just wait until the time is right and it will be a lot cheaper to buy it.

The last time I played was on PS2 and I only completed it once, as I didn't bother to go back again. Now I think it would be nice to revisit in glorious 4K HDR how it supposed to be. :datass:

Sounds like it might be worth a go :)

Only thing is that it sounds like it might add to the tactical challenge of beating a colossus, but not the desperate peril of being in danger. By their nature they are (mostly) large and lumbering, and the world is continuous so that you can just run away to a safe distance/elsewhere for the most part instead of being trapped in a pressured, focused boss fight like in other games.

I may be wrong mind, and it's been a while since I've played it. Interested to do so again regardless - though I need a PS4 (Pro) first... :?

This. Does look amazing and am tempted, but reckon it'll go cheap fairly quick - similar to Rime. Got plenty to keep me busy til then.

It's only £24 on Amazon. I don't see how it's going to get much cheaper than that!!!!

For £22 this has got to be a day one purchase, although i would prefer to get it digitally. The remake looks great and i envy those who are playing this for the first time!

£18.99 if you click & collect from Smyths (https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/ps4-shadow-of-the-colossus-1899-cc-smyths-2885923)

Very.co.uk sent me a £20 voucher, so I used that and ordered the game for £9.99.

Well just got this today and it's stunning at 60fps on the pro. Controls still a bit fiddly but the whole atmosphere hits you in waves as you gallop around. And the music, although re-recorded somewhat, is still some of my favourite of all time.
