Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. "Commandos in Japan"

Fully expecting this to plummet off page one, but has anyone played this? Just released on consoles, but out on PC since last year, I've heard nothing about it, even though it seems to be a bit special.

It looks like it plays like the fantastic Commandos series, but set in Edo-period Japan, guiding a team of specialists stealthily round a map.

There's supposed to be a demo, but it's not there for XB1, which is potentially worrying. Everything else I've seen screams that I would love it.

I would post some screens and stuff, but I'm on my phone.

Anyone tried it?

Looks promising, I love the aesthetic. Not sure if I want to spend £40 on it though - will try the demo and keep an eye out for a price drop.

I've downloaded the demo but not played it yet. The trailer on the ps store looked really cool.

Switch please. Pretty please. And I'm in.

Edit: wish they'd bring out a new Tenchu. Only one I'v e played was on the Wii, (Shadow Assassins), and I loved it.

I really like the look of this but I think it's probably a little too fast paced for me to play.

I'd quite like to see something turn based like XCOM, Invisible, Inc or Hard West with a feudal Japanese setting. And before anyone says Skulls of the Shogun, I've played it and while it was good it was perhaps a bit too cartoonish and simplistic.

I think the main game is based on "shadow mode", where you plan and set up your team members' movements, then put them into action. Might be more manageable? I'll let you know.

Still no sign of the XB1 demo, but I've decided to buy it anyway.

Demo wasn't up on reg PS4 demo page either. You instead have to go to its game page and download from there. Nothing like giving a smaller game that extra wee push, eh. :fp:

Hopefully I'm better at this than I was Commandos. And if it works like it says above (i.e. gameplay isn't real-time), then, I should at least have more of a chance. I hope.

Really impressed by the demo. Proper old school stealth game. Art direction is on point. Played with Japanese voices and English subtitles for 100% immersion. Demo (which I presume is the tutorial level) is very difficult serious. Kept getting caught lol.

Only gripe is having to manage the camera view. You have to manually move it around although there is a quick centre button which helps. Luckily the demo moves at a slow pace so you can scope your next move.

I'll probably get this at some point. Deserves a purchase for doing something different at least.

Tried playing the demo but didn't manage too well as even though the game will run in windowed mode it doesn't allow the mouse cursor to leave the game window, which makes using an onscreen keyboard extremely annoying as you have to position it over the game window so you can't actually see everything.

Edit: its almost playable but there's a lot of keyboard shortcuts that aren't feasible using the onscreen keyboard so I don't know if the difficulty of the game would allow for my slower playing speed.

Unless I'm doing something wrong; the character moves to the edge of the screen and you have to manually adjust it to see where you're going.

That's a major issue for me because every time I press W on the onscreen keyboard the game registers the click and tries to move the character to the location on the screen behind the keyboard.

This makes trying to sneak past guards almost impossible, especially as there doesn't seem to be any way to toggle the enemy FOV 'cones' on or off other than right clicking on them individually.

I've bought it, but not started it yet. I wanted to 100% Yooka-Laylee first. That should happen today.

gooseberry fool I used to LOVE the Commandos series, still got them installed on Steam. Might have to revisit, it's been a while.
