Topic title needs changing to dollars. Thought they had had a massive surge overnight. It's £4m.

After my initial excitement I dropped my pledge to the $60 level then lastnight cancelled it yesterday before the end. It's gonna get paid now whatever and it seemed kinda dumb paying for a game that's over two years away and may not even release. Plus this way can check how it is before buying a copy and decide on what format I want it on, who knows PS5 and Xbox Two might be getting closer to launch by then.

I must admit i totally get what you mean on this. It does seem silly paying for a game that is years away. I do think it will be released in some form - theres simply too many people involved now and would make yu suzuki look pretty stupid. Also, the initial target was $2 million, and we have trebled that so it is safe to say that we will get it eventually. It is slightly scary that by the time it is released we will start hearing news on the ps5 etc!

I just hope we now get hd remakes of the first two games. In all honesty i would take simple emulated versions for now, if only to stop me having to get the dreamcast out and put up with those horrendous load times!

Urgh and that controller, hate using the d-pad on that thing, the spikes on the analogue stick weren't much better.

Its been so long since i played the original title - i did play the sequel on the dreamcast and then on the xbox and xbox 360 later on.

From what i remember, the original is much smaller, but a lot more detailed, and plays out in real time, without being able to skip time etc. i cannot believe that i played that game almost half of my life ago! That atmosphere, the music, that feeling of isolation as you piece together the clues and get through the story. The controls were a bit of a mess weren't they, i mean controlling ryo with the dpad was odd to say the least!

I think what made the game so great was how memorable the characters and places were. It really felt as though we were on that journey and i hope shenmue 3 follows the first game more than the second one in that respect.

I guess we will see regular updates on the game as it is being developed and hopefully that coverage will lead more people to buy it.

I think it's going to be impossible for the game to avoid disappointing most people. The town of the first game, the city of the second, that's all been left behind by the end of Shenmue 2, and I'm not sure the story is going back to a bustling civilisation like that. The worrying bit for me is that I found the final hour of Shenmue 2 to be incredibly dull. There was a lot of wandering along very long paths through woodland with not much to see. Still, I'll happily give them $60 to see them try and give it a proper ending.

But wasn't all of Shenmue I & II like that? I remember incredibly boring sections - in fact I gave up on Shenmue II when I had to start stacking library books or something like that...

Yup, expect Shenmue 3 to be very rural, we're out in the sticks now and civilisation has been left behind.

Yeah I truly hope it comes out and when it does I'll definitely pick it up but seemed silly paying now and commiting to getting it on a specific platform. I mean my ps4 doesn't get a lot of use right now so hard to say if I'll even still have it by 2017 and the PC I have is pretty recent spec but whether it'd run a game that's 2 years away decently is a gamble. Plus with such a long time who knows what might happen.. Maybe MS will stump up some funding and an Xbox One version gets announced or they'll make it for Nintendos next platform if it does well.. if it takes longer than expected there may even be versions for the next generation from Sony or MS depending how long the current consoles last.

I would definitely buy any HD remasters between now and then though. My Dreamcast is acting up a bit and it's a pain hooking the 360 up to play the xbox version of 2.. really hoping MS get some Xbox originals working on the Xbox Ones backwards compatability so can play it on there but probably a long shot..

Anyone else think they may announce a Shenmue 1&2 HD collection at the Playstation experience? The popularity of the Shenmue 3 kickstarter must have have been enough to warrent a remaster of the originals prior to the 3rd games release

I bloody well hope so! Even simple ports in 4:3 video format would do me tbh and i am sure even sega are capable of handing that!

The controls need changing though, so a hd remaster would be preferable. They would easily break even if they decided to remaster it and get a lot of goodwill too. Lets see what happens, but i do doubt sega will do anything at this point and may wait until e3 2016 to make an announcement.

What i really want is a western release of yakuza 0 - thats like a bonus quality exclusive for me and would absolutely love it to happen!

Apparently Sega ported them to the Xbox 360, but due to low sales of other Dreamcast ports like Sega Bass Fishing they never bothered releasing them.

I just assumed that was the Xbox version, but as a digital release. People really need to play the first one too and SEGA need to make this happen!

That looks really nice, it's how my imagination remembers Shenmue looking at the time.
