I just can't bring myself to back this. Shenmue is one of my favourite games ever but I just feel like whatever happens with the kickstarter, the game will never see the light of day.

Alright you sons of guns, wanting to back it BUT I can't see when it is supposed to take the money out. If anyone spots it can you let me know, ta x

Edit: says it will be funded tomorrow, is that what I'm supposed to be looking at?.

4 hours left and it's close to 6 million.

Just another 2.7 million dollars to go before it beats Exploding Kittens, the current Kickstarter record holder in the Games category.

Just backed $60 for the PS4 version. First time I've done this, but it's around the cost of a game, I'll buy the game anyway, so what the hell - by the time the game comes out, that $60 will be long forgotten and it will be like getting a free game.

I'm amazed this has got to 6mil, considering how it ground to a halt.

It's probably a bit less than I would have realistically predicted when it was first announced but it's been a very impressive turn around.

Edit: The topic title is misleading though, it's only $6m not £6m

Yep. During the Sony conference I got super-excited and backed for $185, but since then I've been really put off with how unprofessional the whole thing seems. I'm really concerned about the quality of the people Suzuki is surrounding himself with. The graphic design on the KS page is really amateur. Like, I don't know how much Cal charges, but I imagine he and people of a similar skillset are affordable. Look at the quality of the GRCade logo and graphics compared to what's on the Shenmue III Kickstarter.

It's like babbies first trip to Photoshop.

At least the "Shenmue III" has a classy drop shadow, even if the lighting angle is inconsistent between the "Shenmue" and the "III". :fp:

Christ, the more I look at it the more horrible it is. This game is going to be a train wreck.

I've dropped my pledge to $29 - Still need to play it when it finally hobbles out to launch in 2020.

Why so much negativity? I would not expect the same level of detail as shenmue 1 and 2, however we will get something and likely a further sequel to finish the series. This is a real victory for all gamers out there and i cannot wait to watch the various updates on this before it gets released, probably in 2020.

Topic title needs changing to dollars. Thought they had had a massive surge overnight. It's £4m.

After my initial excitement I dropped my pledge to the $60 level then lastnight cancelled it yesterday before the end. It's gonna get paid now whatever and it seemed kinda dumb paying for a game that's over two years away and may not even release. Plus this way can check how it is before buying a copy and decide on what format I want it on, who knows PS5 and Xbox Two might be getting closer to launch by then.

I must admit i totally get what you mean on this. It does seem silly paying for a game that is years away. I do think it will be released in some form - theres simply too many people involved now and would make yu suzuki look pretty stupid. Also, the initial target was $2 million, and we have trebled that so it is safe to say that we will get it eventually. It is slightly scary that by the time it is released we will start hearing news on the ps5 etc!

I just hope we now get hd remakes of the first two games. In all honesty i would take simple emulated versions for now, if only to stop me having to get the dreamcast out and put up with those horrendous load times!

Urgh and that controller, hate using the d-pad on that thing, the spikes on the analogue stick weren't much better.

Its been so long since i played the original title - i did play the sequel on the dreamcast and then on the xbox and xbox 360 later on.

From what i remember, the original is much smaller, but a lot more detailed, and plays out in real time, without being able to skip time etc. i cannot believe that i played that game almost half of my life ago! That atmosphere, the music, that feeling of isolation as you piece together the clues and get through the story. The controls were a bit of a mess weren't they, i mean controlling ryo with the dpad was odd to say the least!

I think what made the game so great was how memorable the characters and places were. It really felt as though we were on that journey and i hope shenmue 3 follows the first game more than the second one in that respect.

I guess we will see regular updates on the game as it is being developed and hopefully that coverage will lead more people to buy it.

I think it's going to be impossible for the game to avoid disappointing most people. The town of the first game, the city of the second, that's all been left behind by the end of Shenmue 2, and I'm not sure the story is going back to a bustling civilisation like that. The worrying bit for me is that I found the final hour of Shenmue 2 to be incredibly dull. There was a lot of wandering along very long paths through woodland with not much to see. Still, I'll happily give them $60 to see them try and give it a proper ending.

But wasn't all of Shenmue I & II like that? I remember incredibly boring sections - in fact I gave up on Shenmue II when I had to start stacking library books or something like that...
