Game Watch Japan has published a very interesting interview with Suzuki-san, the interview took place during Gamescom and includes some really insightful and interesting information about Shenmue III, here's some of it:

-The released Shenmue III teaser footage is real-time in-game graphics.

-All character models are temporary and subject to change.

-Facial animations were initially implemented but have been removed about a month ago.

-The teaser was especially made for Gamescom 2017, no further plans to show more of the game at this year's Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show. However, a full-scale promotion will take place next year.

-Deep Silver will publish the game internationally, and they'll provide budget and promotional support. A publisher for Japan is to be decided.

-Suzuki-san would like to continue the series in Shenmue IV if possible.

-Suzuki-san is not interested in forcing the Shenmue story to complete in Shenmue III.

-Shenmue III will take around 30 hours of gameplay to complete.

-The fighting engine in Shenmue III is being built from scratch, and unlike Shenmue II it won't use the Virtua engine.

-A system that allows phone calls with characters from Shenmue and Shenmue II is planned for Shenmue III.

-Suzuki-san would like to bring as many voice actors from the previous games as possible, but some are retired now, he will audition a new voice actress for Shenhua.

-OST from Shenmue and Shenmue II will probably be reused in Shenmue III.

-The new partnership with Deep Silver is strong and it's aimed to improve the Shenmue III experience beyond what was initially planned on the Kickstarter.

Any confirmation on the HD releases of the first two games yet? I'm sure I'll end up getting this but would really need to revisit the originals as I honestly can't remember all that much about them anymore!

The only plot things I really remember are that is set in the 80s, your dad gets killed (murdered?) at the start, there's some dragon mask or mirror that acts as the games macguffin and that had something to do with why your dad got killed. Oh and there's an evil bloke wearing robes who is the baddie but doesn't really do much as far as I recall. Other than that I just remember poking about in your house, Ryo saying "I see" a lot, and driving a forklift around the docks!

You could use the capsule machines at the grocery store and if you played at Christmas Santa would turn up. There was a box of kittens in there somewhere too.

I couldn't find the sailors, then I sold my Dreamcast.

I haven't finished the second Shenmue so I wouldn't mind if Sega did release them for this generation.

Almost looks like a game funded by Kickstarter rather the most expensive game ever made.

It's exactly what I expected.

Report: Shenmue HD Collection for PS4 and Xbox One possibly leaked

Following Czech-based retailer Alza's leak (?) of a Bayonetta and Vanquish double pack, it seems there's more where that came from. The same retailer has posted a "Shenmue 1 & 2 Pack" for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Adding fuel to the fire is Slovakian retailers Heureka GetGame and MadGamer all having the same listings.

Unfortunately, that's all the info we have right now. And bear in mind, this is NOT a confirmation of this being a real product at all. That said, it wouldn't be a surprise if it was given the adoration the gaming populace has for the franchise. Don't forget, SEGA themselves has said that they do want to release a Shenmue HD Collection. Also, it might be a good way to promote the upcoming Shenmue 3 and to ensure younger fans experience what the hype is all about.

Once we know more, we'll be sure to let you know. We've contacted SEGA and asked for a statement and will update the story if they respond
.

Hopefully, Sega will announce it at TGS or Sony's conference just before Christmas.

Some of GAF losing its mind at above video. I thought it looked much better than previously released screens. Especially the face of the second person. Would happily have those in the full game.

It would be great if they could implement something like HL2 eye follow, and they need to add jitter. Doing that solves 90% of the uncanny problem with digital characters. But aside from that, honestly it's in keeping with Shenmue and its a low budget game for what it is.

Someone on YouTube demanding hand-done animations like Uncharted 1-3. Yeah sure, you go and spend 10s of 1000s of manhours on those. How many cinematic characters are actually in a game like that? 5? 7? You ONLY do hand-animations at the last hurdle and to final voice acting. Someone else saying they'd work for free (must be good) and do a better job at PR, social media management and content. Someone else saying the logo is terrible.

The main thing I noticed is, her teeth are too white. These are straightforward enough things to see through further into development. They must be working like crazy on content, gameplay refinement and scripts at the moment.

They should leave that in as people sporting unnaturally white teeth (who asks for matt white teeth?!) is now super common.

Same here, and I posted as much over there! Those lovely backgrounds and these much improved faces, the game is looking like it has a lot of potential.

I think some people forget shenmue has an art style and has never gone for realism at all. It's an extremely colourful game, and that's what still amazes me about it on dreamcast. Everything is washed out these days trying to look photoreal. As an artist and consumer I have no interest in photorealism. I've studied the uncanny effect and it kills everything, so don't bother. I'd take Wallace & Gromit any day. I wrote a strawberry floating essay about it. I got a 1st.

I genuinely think realism is pointless. What does it achieve? You can never achieve photorealism and what is the use in escaping into that if it just mirrors the real world?
