Postgooseberry fool Insurance Companies..
by Glowy69 » Fri Dec 12, 2008 3:58 pm

So I had an accident on the motorway yesterday morning, on ringing India, :x , I was greeted with a very helpful person that said that our car would be picked up today for repair and our courtesy car which we are entitled to will be delivered at the same time as we need it for work over the weekend.

Cue to 6pm last night, having heard nothing from the garage or More Than my GF rang them and asked when our car would be picked up.

''We arent sure if it will be tomorrow and you wont be getting a courtesy car''

Why not? They aren't sure, having told us orignally that we would have one because I told them we work over the weekend and that we need it, we are now understandably a bit pissed off. We are then told that if we wish to have a car we must pay £50 to have a hire car which will be refunded when the car is returned. WTF? Do we not pay a monthly premium for this service, after much talking about the same thing for nearly 30 minutes, they say it will be sorted by today.

Today, Laura, (my GF) has had 4 separate phone calls about the claim saying that she is entitled to a car and wont have to pay any money, then another person says she 'must' pay the deposit for the hire car as the garage has ran out of courtesy cars...isnt this the insurance companies problem to sort out?

To say we have been going round in circles is an understatement and I dont know how my GF kept her cool on the phone, because, and Im not being racist, these call centres based in Asia/India, wherever are as useful as a strawberry floating chocolate teapot.

So my ulitmate question is has anyone had any bad experiences? I mean they are quick enough to remove the money from our banks but when we need the service we pay for they act like utter retards.

She shouldn't have to pay for a hire car because the company ran out of courtesy cars - it's not her fault, it's theirs. They should provide.

I know this, but they really dont listen, they tell you one thing and then say another, it should be simple.

Accident
Ring insurance
Insurance contacts garage
Gets courtesy car out
picks up damaged car
we pay excess fo repaired car.

FFS.

Go through your terms and conditions that you agreed to and make sure there wasn't any fine print that allows them to do what they're doing.

There isnt, the thing is they have agreed twice to give us a car and keep coming up with excuses, now the garage has ''ran out of courtesy cars' they want £50 for a hire car, Im pretty sure its up to them to sort that out not me.

I suppose there only option would be that you have to pay that £50 for which you'll be refunded.

That's probably a hire car company rule.

Yeah it is, but its the insurance companies job to sort it out hence they should pay it.

Anyway she has just rang me and we are having a car tonight. :D Still gonna complain to More than though.

You better complain. And threaten legal action for every loss you incur due to their ineptness. Tell them you would like the money spent by you on calling them credited back to you as that is your loss for them trying to breach their contract. Any losses you incur for not having that car will probably be a breach of contract and be recoverable by you.

Weve told them that we will be sending them a bill for all the time spent on the phone when we shouldnt have been the ones phoning around.

How would one go about complaining, I dont have any names because tbh, and Im not being racist again, I couldnt pronounce any of there names.

That's your fault, it's not like you couldn't have asked them to spell it out

Next time you need to ring, take down names. Get them to spell it out for you. You complain in writing to their company, see if you can dig up important people in the company and write to them if you don't get a reply from their complaints section. You'll have to exhaust your complaint options with them first before you can move on. I don't know who you move onto complaining to next, but there will be a regulating body for insurance companies since they rake in profits and scam customers.

Thats outsourcing for ya im afraid mate. Sometimes i think that microsoft/dell etc outsource call centers to these places not because of cheap labour, but that the 'technicians' are so bad people eventually just strawberry floating give up even trying to get them to solve problems for them

Whenever I've phoned MS I've got an American.

Glowy,

It's not uncommon for courtesy cars to be in demand with weather conditions leading to a greater number of accidents this year. You shouldn't have to pay a deposit for a hire car (I am presuming this is not your policy excess you have been asked to pay).

If your insurance policy entitles you to a courtesy car then you should demand this from your insurance company.

Which company is it? Do they have a UK number or a Head Office number you can ring?

The insurance company may pass the blame to the garage but your policy is with them so it's their responsibility to sort it out. Basically, you'll need to get on the phone and pressure them into sorting it out (i.e. speak to a Manager). You don't have to be abusive but keep demanding they honour the policy by providing you with a car and state that you have an urgent need for one - they should aim to sort this out for you (even if it means sourcing a hire car).

Hope this helps.

:fp: @ I'm not racist but ...

Anyway, More Than are really cheap mayne. Only agg I've had with them was that they didn't charge me for my insurance and I had to ring up and give them my card details again.

When I had to get a courtesy car with Norwich Union they did most of the work.

Basically the lesson to be learnt is just don't bother with insurance, just drive off if u r involved in a minor accident, if it's bad then try to escape after you've been taken to hospital. It's far cheaper this way. It's what the poles do, we should learn from them.

Norwich Union (well, Endsleigh) are bastards. They raised my annual premium by the best part of £300 for the renewal this month, putting it back up to £1100. This is despite the fact I've had another year of no-claims and I've turned 21 and bought a more modern and safer car. It was just for third party fire and theft too, and was even more expensive for fully comp.

Looked around and found Churchill and they offered a £550 premium for fully comp insurance, courtesy car and all the trimmings. That's a good £600 saving for a better policy.

Endsleigh had nothing to say when I phoned up to cancel. It's in insurance companies' favour that you don't get badgered by sales staff when you want to cancel. They just do it. Unlike ISPs and phone providers.

I once had to make a claim when I was a named driver on my Dad's policy. They tried to get out of it by saying that we had stated on the application that we were spouses. :fp:

It didn't take them long to back down.

 That's just an error. Had it have said you were spouses you could have taken them to court easily. When you apply for these forms and fill them in, they must do some checks don't they? The next chapter I'm about to read in a moment is about errors in contracts.

Well they quickly turned around when we pointed out to them how ridiculous it was.
