Short sleeved shirts

A colleague of mine thinks it's hilarious that I wear short sleeved shirts when it's hot. I counter argue by pointing out that he wears long sleeve shirts but ALWAYS rolls the sleeves up, so what's the difference?

I always go long sleeved and roll them up.

I guess the actual short sleeve shirts have a "school uniform" look to them. It obviously depends on the style of the shirt though. If it's well fitted they look fine, but if they are a bit baggy then they look sort of dumb. Like this....

Is this a fashion thing then? It's like taking the piss out of someone for wearing shorts, and then wearing trousers with the legs rolled up.

It's like that casual jumper of the top of a shirt look I guess, some people love the 'office casual professional thing.

I always go rolled-up sleeves whatever the weather :shifty:

New office and I'm a desk away from the aircon controls, too. Expecting drama when it gets warmer.

I think it's a fashion thing. I'm sure there's a bit of a trope around office-based TV shows where the lower-down workers have short sleeves where the higher roles have long sleeved shirts so maybe everyone's just paranoid about being labelled a Dwight.

Always long sleeves, you can't have a shirt without a double cuff.

I don't wear shirts to work, just casually every now and again. If you don't have big arms then a loose short sleeve isn't go to look as good as a rolled up sleeve. Plus the long sleeved shirt can be worn all year round, not just in the summer.

I bought some short sleeve shirts for the first time a few weeks ago. Some Ted Baker ones which are really well fitted and dont have that horrible droopy sleeves look.

I also roll up the sleeves on a long sleeve if I want to. If you do your roll/fold properly its quite stylish anyway.

As with all things, spend the money on a proper shirt by a proper designer and you can use it properly.

what about if you're going to be outside all day in hot conditions.. rolled up sleeves will choke your arms and make them sweaty no?

I have always worn short sleeved shirts regardless of the time of year, I don’t like my arms being covered for some reason, when I was at work I would wear a fitted good quality short sleeved shirt and it always looked very smart, I would only ever wear a long sleeved shirt if it was a special occasion so that I could wear cufflinks, I wear things that I like and I find comfortable and could not care less what other people think

I have quite long arms so a short sleeved shirt looks stupid, whereas a long sleeved shirt rolled up to just above my elbows looks better.

I'm scruffy as hell at work. Often a short sleeve shirt, with one button open and no tie. Occasionally if I'm giving a brief i'll put a tie on. Once in a blue moon I'll wear a blazer. Never cufflinked long sleeve shirts. I hate dressing smart...but ironically often feel quite nice if i do.

This is just it, I'm not bothered, more puzzled why me wearing a smart shirt with short sleeves is worthy of tears in eyes laughter and daily ridicule

I wear short sleeved shirts as soon as the weather warrants it. They do not look as good, but I do not care, I would prefer not to be sweating. Especially as the aircon wars will start this time of year
