So this is doing the rounds this morning, courtesy of Skippy. Take a look at the state of this shite:

How many of you gave up storied careers in woodchopping to follow your gaming dreams? I know for a fact that Eight used to be an erotic short story maestro.

I suppose the big issue here is why the strawberry float they've framed this issue around men specifically? Shortlist isn't men's mag, after all. Gaming issue for non-gamers, great. Sounds good. Gaming issue for non-gamer elucidating why games sate "masculine bloodlust" is such a weird angle to take, not to mention completely regressive. It sounds like an old 1994 issue of Maxim, or a parody mockup from the back page of PC Gamer.

Woodchopping results in cutting down trees, burning wood leads to a release of carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide release leads to climate change, climate change leads to the death of billions.

strawberry float you Joe, I will stick to killing virtual people rather than plot the murder of the entire human race. You bearded monster.

If he wants to be a complete dick about stuff playing football is just pointlessly running about after a ball which is something even a dog can do but plenty of people enjoy that.
Every pastime is essentially pointless in the grand scheme of things but we aren't Vulcan's who's solid logic and ultimate work ethic means all the time they have is spent on the good of the many.

He can jolly well sod off.

Lastly I hope the robots who are about to enslave us all make this guy pointless chop wood while they sit sipping toxic sludge smoothies (they run on toxic sludge for some unknown reason) and watching Calculon in his latest thespian masterpiece.

It basically is to be fair, it definitely targets a male audience. That's no excuse for toxic masculinity and this dated nonsense though. It's not the 90s, a mag aimed at men doesn't need to be aggressively lad-y, and there's no reason why articles in such a mag can't be inclusive.

The guy who's on about sating masculine bloodlust actually looks like a serial killer, though.

Yeah, Shortlist is very much aimed at the male market in the same way Stylist (free magazine) is aimed at women.

Still, what a gooseberry fool introduction this week

No you won’t, you will be too busy playing the new Ubisoft game “Woodchopping 2017”. It has realistic saws and fully customisable lumberjack shirts. :datass:

There are a couple of woodcutting games in the 'mundane yet popular german work/job simulation game' genre, but these guys are probably too busy writing their novels in starbucks or attending all-synth underground music venues to be interested in such piffle.

But seriously, this smacks of contrarian hipster rubbish because games are mainstream now.

You're actually right: I was mentally amalgamating it with it's female orientated sister-pub The Stylist.

I see the argument on Twitter has now become why arn't females included which is not what this is about, this particular instance should be about getting rid of the stereotype of what a male gamer is perceived as.

As puruse(r) of fine magazines, I've never read this one in my life, therefore it is clearly shite anyway.

It's a free giveaway magazine, which obviously talks mountains of shite.

For a free magazine, it's pretty good.

Not surprised KKELIN hasn't heard of it :slol:

It's about both really. The "let's be honest, it's definitely men we're talking about here" line disregards women in a way that's unfair and untrue.

Anyway, there's still plenty to like in the feature other than what's in the tweets above. Shortlist is a pretty great mag really, this is just terrible misjudged

Wasn't there a weird case of a prominent figure sometime back talking about how gamers should instead be crafting wooden tables? What is this obsession with making us take on wood related tasks o_o
