PostShould Britain Join The Euro?
by Alvin Flummux » Tue Dec 02, 2008 10:59 pm

Prompted by Newsnight...

Apparently some unidentified top government ministers have said that they believe we would have been better off today had we joined the Euro earlier. The Euro-zone will soon comprise 16 nations, and although the Pound is down and the Euro is up, it hasn't yet reached 1=1. It could if we joined, though... couldn't it? Should the Pound Sterling be consigned to the scrap heap?

I don't know much about how it'd affect us, but there are things like having to convert all machines that take money. Even though all countries that took on the Euro before have had to do that, they were in a better economical situation at the time.

Is it not kind of inevitable that sooner or later this will happen?

Well, the £20 note looks like a Euro note for a reason.

The fact that the Bank of England will no longer set the interest rate is reason enough to give this a no. x

And no, it makes buying stuff from Amazon much cheaper for me.

Better the euro than the Riyal anyway, because that'll be the other option in another 20 years or so.

Surely everyone was seeing as the Euro changeover didn't happen at the same as the

worst financial crisis this world or any other has ever known

Entrusting monetary policy to a removed European body would be seriously damaging.

You simply cannot create a monetary policy that is the best possible fit for twenty odd different countries with twenty very diverse economies.

Yes, you bastards. It'll make the bargains thread a lot easier on the eye, for one thing.

Thats quite possibly the lamest reason for joining the euro Crapolite!

For the Uk to join the Euro at this current point in time would just create an even bigger financial nightmare for the labour party, as it will cost hundreds of millions of pounds! to convert to the euro, every single shop will need some kind of adjustment, and with us being in enough financial debt as is it at the moment, thats just one of the reasons we should not join the euro.
