Everytime you post about this farm, I am more and more convinced that if it's legit then you should get as far away from it as possible.

Blunt answer: Get the strawberry float out of there.

More thoughtful answer: Imagine somebody else started a thread on this forum with the exact same opening post you made. What would your advice to them be?

Anti-religion answer: It’s all bullshit mate.

Less judgemental answer: I noticed the part of your post where you said by hanging out with the JW’s you noticed that the LDS teachings didn’t follow the scriptures? The JW’s might follow the actual Bible but they are still a sect that are at odds with most Christian teachings. Have you ever thought of joining a more “normal” Church? Maybe one that let’s you celebrate your birthday, drink coffee and not have to wear magic pants? My mother-in-law is Jamaican and was part of a very strict church when she was growing up – no make up, no gambling of any kind, no alcohol or tobacco, no trousers (only ankle length skirts) etc etc. When she came to England she joined the Church of England, as she puts it all she wanted to do was “smoke my fags, play my bingo and praise my lord”

Second blunt answer: GET THE strawberry float OUT OF THERE

I would encourage this but to get the full effect you need to say it in a Jamaican accent and thanks to PC GONE MAD apparently white Brits doing that is now frowned upon.

I've only just read the thread but I'm glad you've made this decision, everyone else has said pretty much what I would suggest.

Perhaps late to the thread but here's my take:

Don't leave without a plan. I want to lead with this, because "don't leave" is at odds with the rest of my post, but it's important to stress as I'm sure you're more aware than most. Your number one priority is a safe place to stay - a bed of your own, a room of your own, and good food to eat. Your current situation doesn't sound great, but it's provided you with stability. That gives you the space to make sure that wherever you move on to you have the basics lined up ready to walk into. This can take a few days, or longer, and you shouldn't jump into anything without properly assessing it first (even if that's a quick look around in person of the new place you're moving to).

Prioritise yourself. Your own well-being should be your most important concern. I'm not religious, but I'll say that any loving god worthy of your faith would want what is best for you. If your current situation is making you depressed, then it's not what's best for you.

Also ask do those around you have your best interests at heart? They are already pressuring you through their religion (already ringing cult-like alarm bells) but does your boss/host have any other ulterior motives for keeping you around? I would suggest yes. You are essentially free labour for their farm which they are happy to exploit through continued "volunteering" rather than offering you a paid position - and it turns out not only are you volunteering, you're paying rent! This sounds incredibly exploitative - your rent almost certainly more than covers your expense to them in food and bills. They are having you work for free while also taking half the money you get from the state to keep you in a place of reliance upon them due to your isolation, all the while pressuring you to join their church. This is not normal, or healthy. It is not a situation you want to be in on a permanent basis.

From your past sudden commitment to the LDS, and now a seemingly sudden switch in faith to Jehova's Witness, I would guess that you are quite an impressionable person. Be very wary of people exploiting this. Both the LDS and Jehova's Witness are pretty "out there" - they demand a lot from their members to the point of controlling a lot of their life, and enforce very strict rules that differ greatly from wider society. Such closely knit communities appear to offer a lot, but they are also in many respects isolating from wider society. You're still young and on a journey of discovery about yourself - you should consider that there is a lot more out there to see and learn about. There are also a wealth of churches (and other religions) that are supportive and welcoming into their community without pressure or judgement. I would recommend you give some of these a try, if your faith is important to you.

Little Caribbean old ladies are the best. I remember working in London I used to take photos of eyes which looked like this:

Usually people would say "Oh, it looks like the Moon/Mars/Jupiter", but once a little old lady from the Caribbean was sat there, and shouted "HEEHEEHEE IT LOOK LIKE A GREAT BIG PAIR OF TITS!"

+1 for the point that's been stated a few times now about "out there" religions.

I'm not trying to judge your beliefs at all, do whatever works for you I guess, but I can't help but feel like... if you're willing to investigate different religions and possibly switch then wouldn't you be better off with something a bit more mainstream? There are nice, relatively liberal churches around that can provide a loving community without trying to control the rest of your life. I'm sure most churches will encourage you to some extent, but this farm setup the JW seem to have got going does seem a bit culty to me. I'd be asking myself, if their message is so great, why is it a problem for you to go off for a bit and talk to other people?

Someone will have to correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think "normal" churches try to control where you live or tell you you'll be tempted by the devil if you take a new job.

Only on GRcade could we go from "vulnerable person being exploited on a farm" to "Caribbean lady thinks eyes look like tits"

Just to add another +1 to the points about "out there" and controlling religions.

I've been a churchgoer for 15 years now and have been involved in various capacities in quite a few churches across England and Wales and none of them have exhibited anything like the kind of behaviour that you have described from your LDS and JW experiences.

As others have said if faith and religion are something important to you then there are better options out there that would not lead you into the kind of situation where you find yourself now.

But also a big +1 to ORs point about having a plan, don't do anything until you know what your next move(s) are.

Another top tip might be to swap your food with someone else at meal time.
