RE: Shovel Knight appearing in Yooka Laylee.

Yacht Club Games designed and built the model itself while Playtonic rigged and animated it to life. Shovel Knight sure looks comfortable in a 3D world. Who knows…maybe one day we’ll see Shovel Knight running and jumping around his very own 64-styled adventure! Wouldn’t that be neat?

Oh man, a 3D Shovel Knight game pitched as a Dark Souls for kids would be incredible

Yes please. Im really missing the 64 style platformer lately, some of Nintendos output has scratched the itch but not quite well enough, new games in that would would be most welcome.

Shovel Knight is coming to Switch, introduces new pricing scheme - DLC campaigns to be sold as standalone titles.

Shovel Knight has been confirmed for a release on Nintendo Switch, though it will be administered via an all new pricing structure.

Going into effect this spring on not only Switch, but PS4, Xbox One, and PC/Mac/Linux as well, Shovel Knight and its DLC campaigns will be sold as standalone titles.

Here's how it works: When Shovel Knight launched, developer Yacht Club Games said it would release several spin-off campaigns as free DLC. That's still true. It's just that this comprehensive package will be redubbed Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.

Anyone who hasn't picked up the game prior to this change will instead be given the option of purchasing Shovel Knight and its campaign DLCs as separate standalone titles.

Thus, the original Shovel Knight campaign will soon be called Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope (perhaps a reference to how the original Star Wars was later renamed Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope).

The excellent Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows and the impending Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will be available separately, as will the upcoming King Knight's Campaign and the four-player Battle Mode (which won't be available on 3DS or Vita).

In short, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will be a bundle that contains all the Shovel Knight content that ever was and ever will be, and current owners will be upgraded to this automatically. The change will only affect new players who can buy the DLC spin-offs first, should they want.

So why this confusing change? "We hope providing less expensive standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players!" Yacht Club explained on its official blog. "Also, players can more easily grab an adventure (or Battle Mode) on another platform!"

The downside to this new structure is that Yacht Club is planning to raise the price of Shovel Knight this spring, once it becomes Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, so you'd best snag it now while you can lay claim to all the bonus goodies for free.

In other news, Shovel Knight will also be getting two-player co-op for all consoles and PC, but not 3DS or Vita.

There will also be a Body Swap mode coming in the next update that will allow players the ability to alter characters' physiques.

The game is a lot of value and quality for the money currently. I've spent more time on this game than a lot of full priced releases, it is well worth the money now, and I'm sure it will continue to be after the price hike, seeing as it'll have an additional campaign with another on the way.

If you like retro style platformers that take ideas from a few Capcom Nes titles and improve on them, get this game.

Is the upcoming Specter of Torment whole new content or the same levels again with a different character?

Nothing has been said yet on it. The trailer looks like new levels, but it's hard to be certain at this point.

Started Plague of Shadows tonight. Really not feeling it. :( I don't think the character movement and level design sync up well at all and knock back seems to happen even more leading to tedious pitfall deaths. With plenty of dropped loot being in places I cant get to without dying. Plague Knight has cool abilities but it rarely feels like it clicks. Sometimes I do the jump burst onto the next screen only to find myself falling into another pit because your momentum carries on. Just doesn't feel right at all to me.

Use the item that gives you hang time. It's one of the first things you can buy, and it makes the game a lot easier.

That was me at first too. Only at first.
Yeah, the controls are a bit complicated and you die a lot and it takes a long time to get to grips with Plague Knight, but I think I might prefer him to Shovel Knight. Once I learned to conserve or stop my momentum mid-air as necessary, and I was chaining jumps, double jumps, bomb bursts, bomb throws and more to clear whole screens without touching the ground it started to feel magical.
The different powder, casing and fuse bomb customization options are also pretty special.

Movement tips straight from the developer.

Ok. Thanks you two. I'll come back to it later now. Try again. Just don't think I should really have to read up movement tips just to make it through early levels. Question though. The graveyard level is stupidly hard that early in the game right? Even with Shovel Knight it seemed way harder then some of the later ones.

Can I just check how the DLC works with the retail editions?

I assume they still get all the updates free after the Treasure Trove upgrade?

I had Shovel Knight on PC, that should've upgraded to the Treasure Trove right?

I should play this at somme point.

I bought the Switch bundle. Thought it was a touch pricey at £23, but I had launch day fever and you justify these prices in your head.

Haven't played any of the DLC yet, and am just going through the main game. Think I'm halfway through the bosses judging by the feat I unlocked.

Really enjoying it, and it's not as hard as I thought, and reasonably fair. Checkpoints are right outside bosses and the only cost of death is money, really. And you can grind that if you want.

The mechanics are pretty sound and it's got loads of character. It's complementing Zelda quite well - usually play that on the TV, then go and play Shovel Knight in bed for an hour.

There's a third and final DLC in the works, right?

It's not out on other consoles yet, I think. And yeah they working on a King Knight update.

Can't wait until the Wii U update. Although my gamepad is broken, so I don't think I can connect the console to my house Wifi yet.
