"Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic created by Yacht Club Games. You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this valley with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and save his lost beloved. He wields a ShovelBlade; a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!

"However, between Shovel Knight and his beloved stands a cadre of villainous knights. These terrible foes, known as The Order of No Quarter, have been dispatched to prevent Shovel Knight from reaching the Enchantress at any cost! If you love games with perfect platforming, beautiful art, infectious music, crazy bosses, humor and levity, and real heart… Shovel Knight is for you!"

"Shovel Knight is one of the best platformers I've ever played, period. As I sit here with the theme song stuck in my head, I'm realizing that Yacht Club Games has created something truly special, and it was absolutely worth the risk to start their own studio"
  • IGN - 9.0 out of 10
"Shovel Knight is my favorite game of 2014 so far, and a true testament to the power of the old-school. Whether you were weaned on an NES like I was, or don't yet know what you missed in a time before you were born, Shovel Knight is an absolute must-play"
  • Nintendo Life - 9 out of 10
"Yacht Club Games has a hit on its hands with Shovel Knight. With brilliant game design, charming presentation and a ton of content, this is a wonderful first title from the fledgling developer"
  • Polygon - 9 out of 10
"Shovel Knight is so much more than a love letter to the genre — it is, in fact, the kind of game people write love letters about"

This is VERY good by the way. My worry with games with these sort of throwback graphics (Megaman 9/10/Scott Pilgrim/Super Meat Boy/etc) is that they're usually obscenely difficult. This seems very fair with liberal checkpoints.

I have a download code for the 3DS version but because it's not yet released, the code doesn't work. Been waiting for this game since the Kickstarter, looks incredible. I've tried not to read too much into it so I don't spoil anything.

Was hoping to find a release date here, TBD :(

I'm afraid that there's no news on the Shovel Knight release date yet, Alpha; but I've read that the game is going through the rating certification processes for Europe. I'd imagine it can't be too far away.

Just got the original and arranged soundtracks for this badboy, hopefully not too long to wait until I can enjoy the music in game too.

The game has sold vey well - hoorah! Unusually, in these times of smoke and mirrors for game sales, Yacht Club Games has broken down the costs and sales and shared them online. It's a good read - click here to take a look.

wow that's great that they have done over their target for sales but also they still haven't released it worldwide. I am sure that will jump nicely when they do and then in future it will probably go into a steam sale and sell a ton more.

Just read it.

It's nice to see a dev so transparent about everything. I'm glad it's doing well for them as I've heard it's a cracking little game.

I await this game with interest. I will be there day one when it is released on Wii U. Good to see it sold well on both Nintendo platforms. I hope Europe goes well for them.

Be interesting to know how much money they've made from their sales now, presumably they've made more than the $1.1 million extra (above Kickstarter) that they thought they'd need to cover the full cost of the game initially.

Would be good to know how long they think they can fund the company on these sales and what kind of bonuses they've given themselves.
