I think I'm going to be doing it this year. My (TBC) plan is to do a 24 hour marathon in which I gain 10,000 achievement points. :dread:

You live not too far away, so perhaps a team effort?

Cool, plenty of time to figure out the logistics then. :)

My uni's gaming society normally do 48/72 hour marathons once a semester, maybe I can see if we could arrange something.

I would definitely be interested in doing this. Probably just do it myself, but a get together of some sort would definitely be fun too.

We could use Mumble to chat while we all take part.

As I have work Monday I will be looking to play from Midnight the Friday to the Saturday.

Excellent, maybe get some promotion for ASG too?

Oh man, that would be a challenge, but one that I think would be well within your reach :) Brilliant idea!

Had the thread made a sticky.

My just giving page is https://www.justgiving.com/Shawn-Smith/

Also trying to get my employer YBS to make a donation and my local CEX to lend me some games to play for the marathon.

I've signed up on the site. Currently trying to figure out what my plans are going to be for it.

I know I'm going to be streaming the whole thing, so that immediately cuts out any of my consoles unless I manage to come up with some form of capture device in the next month or two. I've been using OBS to do all my PC streaming lately and there are some pretty cool things I never knew how to do that I'm now looking at. I'll do a few test streams in the run up to it, but hopefully it'll look suitably pro come the actual event.

I'm going to have to think up some fund-raising ideas though. Harassing my work-mates and friends is number one, followed by facebook begging, trying to shake-down my employers and spamming twitter right up until the actual event.

Games wise I'm struggling to cut down my list. I'm considering a format of playing a game for three hours, followed by a smaller game for one hour and repeating. Means I get through twelve in total, but can play stuff that would be either dull to watch for really long periods of time or is just plain weird.

I'm thinking of making the small games medical related in some way as well. Definite inclusions are Dr Mario, Theme Hospital, Surgeon Simulator and Team Fortress 2 (I'll play exclusively as a medic). Surgeon Simulator will be towards the end of the run so I can show how fatigue may affect my abilities

Ha, nice idea! Having a few games to play definitely helps break things up.

And great stuff getting that extra from your work, Slayerx. Nice amount to have already :)

Just did my first basic test stream:

http://www.twitch.tv/cheekydevlin/b/551455368
NOTE: Gameplay starts about 13 seconds in. Oh and I beat the Gargoyles on my first attempt! :datass:

A few things I need to fix or will change.
- It seems to be cutting off part of the gameplay, though this may be an issue with Dark Souls and DSfix.
- I've changed the position of the webcam feed (The orange box) to the top right.
- The "Currently Playing" text is obviously incorrect, but will cycle every 5 seconds with donation requests and other information.
- Time Remaining will obviously be counting down. Right now the counter isn't active so it thinks that I've finished. Hence the "Game Over"
- I may look at changing the size of the SKSP overlay.
- I need to find a decent microphone set-up that doesn't require me to wear my headset for 24 hours.
- I need to get decent audio levels so that any talking I do isn't drowned out/or drowning out the game audio.

So I'm confident that my stream will look awesome on the day/night/next day. I've already set up a couple of other scenes that aren't in that video. Things like a "Please Standby" for my pre-stream as well as a scene where the webcam takes up the main space for inbetween games. I'm also going to do a "Be right back" scene for when I need to step away for a minute or two.

Next thing I plan on doing is finalizing my games list and then testing each game individually to make sure I don't get any surprises. :D

Feel free. I'm using obs to stream as well as a couple of other small programs that interface with it, so I'll help as best I can.

Hey,

I'm guessing the things you have setup are things I couldn't do with PS4?

I have OBS but as a newbie to streaming was wondering what you use with it to have a link to your just giving page etc?

Looking to stream Destiny/Last Of Us and Rouge Legacy.

Looking for a few multi player games so people who join up on GRcade could possibly play together.

Thanks

Shawn

Yeah my setup is for PC games. I could stream directly from my PS4, but I'd lose all the custom overlays and timers. The only way to do console games and still use that stuff would be to get a capture device.

I'm still looking into linking it with just-giving. I'll definitely have the address on screen, but there'll be a link on my Twitch page as well. I don't think I can do anything within OBS that would create a clickable link on the video, that would be a have to be a twitch feature.

Really thinking of doing this, going to talk to the missus tonight and see if I can get her involved in it too!
