This time tomorrow, three brave GRcade veterans will be either starting or getting prepped and ready to take part in 2014's Sick Kids Save Point.

Last Year's Plea

Yes, I’m ignoring all the next gen hype. Yes, I haven’t posted anything of note on this forum for a good while (or, some might say, ever) and yes, I really do think that Fuzzy Wuzzy was a woman.

But let’s just ignore all that for the moment. Let’s focus on the bigger picture. Let’s focus on Sick Kids Save Point 4.

Over the past couple of years, our little community has contributed in a very big way to a rather special gaming event called Sick Kids Save Point. It’s a 24 hour gaming marathon that’s held to help raise funds for the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh and I have to say, it’s done a pretty frickin’ fantastic job of it so far (over £40k and counting!). This year’s event starts on October 11th and there are already a number of people signed up.

I took a break from it last year with the torch being admirably carried by Wuijibobo, but I’m stepping back into the ring again with the goal of playing gooseberry fool for an entire day fully in my mind.
Yes, crap games are the theme once again and, much like last time, I’d like suggestions from your good selves to drive my schedule. I bet there’s been a whole slew of dross since I last gave this a go so I’m expecting titles to come flying at me thick and fast (kennethwilliams.jpg).

There are No Limits this time, I’ll play whatever I can. And, like last time, the more you guys sponsor me, the more I’ll play. I should probably also point out that I haven’t been fully invested in the video games side of things for a number of months. I haven’t had a playing session in ages and the last games I played properly (Metal Gear Rising and GoW: Asscension) made me feel old beyond my (gaming) years. This will be a challenge in itself, but add the fact that I’m hunting down some truly awful titles to play and the difficulty factor is ramped right up to Nightmare.

So, how about it? Shall we do this again? Shall we make GRcade a part of gaming/charity history? Or does anyone else want to join me? The last time was an absolute blast and one of the best things I've done, knowing that you guys are on board again this year would make it even better.

Come on, people, whadya say?

So shite that when you buy it one of the developers comes round your house and defecates on your lawn, porch, and back garden.

So there's my suggestion for a shite game.

My word. That would be absolutely perfect, great choice! It almost sounds like a next-gen Desert Bus (my personal favourite from last time), that's some start.

I really wanted to do this this year, but my second child is due on the 8th and I don't think my other half would approve. So instead I'll throw a shite game into the mix, seeing as I've played hundreds of them. :shifty:

Power Rangers: Super Samurai.

Review

Survives being one of the worst games on Metacritic due to the fact that there are only two reviews on there. But having recently paid money for this travesty, I can happily account for its awfulness. In case you needed more convincing....

Yep, that'll do nicely too, thanks!

I should have posted it in the OP, but here's a link to my thread from last time.

SKSP 2012

I'm hoping to get enough suggestions so I don't have to play any of those ones again.

Especially ET :dread:

You should play some Takeshi no Chōsenjō. It's proper gooseberry fool.

That looks like an 8-bit version of Yakuza, complete with the crazy jumping that it's well known for.

In my head, I always heard the title of this being said in a kind of Rodney Dangerfield type voice ("Papers? Please!"), then I watched the trailer and it realised that it's proper grim. Eesh.

Can't commit 100% at this time because things are a bit hectic over here at the moment, if I'm free when it's closer to the day then I'd be happy to tag in and join in with the torture of gooseberry fool games.

That would be brilliant :D

I've started my training in earnest by clocking up a few hours on Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3. Not getting far in either of them mind, but it's a start!

The lovely people at Rockstar North have stepped in again with a generous donation and prizes for this year's participants.

Here's a link to SKSP site for the full story.

I'd say it's worth joining in just for the chance to win the Chop cuddly toy :shifty:

A $1bn game within the first week of release and that's all they're giving?

Awesome, thanks! Hope the heid's ok this morning :)

Wuiji, I think the cuddly toy is made out of solid platinum and the collar's studded with diamonds, so that's not too bad, I suppose.

The Good News - I've beaten my fundraising target! (Hooray!)

The People Are Being A Bit Too Nice To Me News - My list of rubbish games to play is only a couple of titles long! (Wha? Motherfu..)

The Now You're Really Pushing It News - Any donations are still welcome! (Right, I'm getting my gun...)

So unless I hear otherwise, I'll be playing an hour of Ride To Hell: Retribution and the rest of the time will be spent taking it easy on the likes of GTA V, Monster Hunter 3 and Final Fantasy XIV. Ahhhhh.

Now, I know that none of you want that. This is a challenge of endurance and patience, you want to see me suffer, right? (Right!) You want to hear me beg, right? (Of course!) And you want to me to cry for my childhood teddy bear, right? (Yea...dude's lost it already)

I've still got a few days to get some games together and I'm happy to take any suggestions. Or do any of you have titles lying around that you could donate for the gameathon (which would be returned to you right after)?

More donations made and titles suggested means more pain and suffering for me so please click on the link below if you'd like to sponsor me, or PM me if you feel like offloading some crap :)

Thank you!

The time is almost upon us!

I'll be kicking off my session at about 9 tomorrow night, all being well. Any plans that I may have had have pretty much vanished, I do have a copy of Ride to Hell though so I'm going to punish myself with that for as long as I can take it.

The SKSP team have been doing podcasts leading up to this weekend and I've got a wee slot on the latest one. You can have a listen here:

http://sickkidssavepoint.com/category/podcast/

I think there are almost 100 people taking part this year and the total raised so far is just under £9,000. A fantastic amount already :)

3 hours and counting before game time. I've got a much bigger challenge to deal with before then though - the kids bath and bed time.

Any chance this could get stickied please?
